Cherokee County Undersheriff Chip Root honored for cybercrime work
JOPLIN, Mo. — A current member of law enforcement in southeast Kansas is honored in Joplin.
Cherokee County undersheriff, Chip Root was awarded the Kiwanis Club of Joplin's First Responder Award Tuesday.
It's for his tireless work and dedication during his years of service as the commander of the Southwest Missouri Cyber-Crime task force. Root recently retired from JPD to join fellow JPD alum, Brian Henderson — who, of course, is the current Cherokee County Sheriff.
'We don't do this job for the money or for the accolades. It's literally for serving our community, and the citizens of Joplin and Southwest Missouri — and I've been proud to do that every day until I retired,' said Root.
Root began his law enforcement career in Girard in 1994. In 2008 — he was selected to become JPD's first cybercrime detective.
