Create Account When Heinz launched its new product, Fish & Chips sauce, it urged its British customers to think of the new offering as 'tartare 2.0' and listed ingredients such as gherkins, dill, salt, parsley and mustard. Some customers were not having it, however, suggesting that it was simply a case of an old sauce in a new bottle being advertised as an invention. Tartare sauce — traditionally made of mayo, chopped gherkins, capers and herbs such as tarragon and dill — is considered a classic accompaniment to seafood dishes, namely fish and chips. Heinz described its new product as a 'fresh and herby condiment' that was 'poised to become Britain's new go-to pairing for fish dinners. 'If tartare is the OG fish condiment, then think of Heinz Fish & Chips sauce as tartare 2.0 — 2025's hot new upgrade… Love tartare? You'll be obsessed. Never tried it? Consider this your tasty gateway to next-level fish & chips.' This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Shoppers were not immediately convinced by the announcement. Some said the new sauce is just a re-brand. 'This is tartare sauce,' one commenter said, per the U.K. Daily Mail , while another added, 'so it's tartare sauce at an increased price.' Yet another commenter said: 'If only there was a sauce previously to serve with fish and chips.' Recommended video One difference in the two sauces is that the new Fish & Chips sauce is vegan. It doesn't contain egg yolks. 'WOW this one is actually vegan. The old one was not! Pity the name will put us off being 'fish' n chips sauce. Marketing missed a beat there,' one commentor said. Read More Heinz Tartare Sauce was pulled from supermarkets in the U.K. 2022, but is still available in some restaurants and online. The new Fish & Chips sauce does not appear to be available in Canada. It was not listed among the products on the Heinz Canada website as of last week. Asked whether the new sauce is different to tartare sauce, Heinz responded to the Daily Mail: 'While traditional tartare sauce is made with gherkins and capers to create a tangier sauce, our new Fish & Chips sauce blends gherkins, onions, and fragrant herbs to create a herbier, creamier condiment, making it incredibly versatile to use with all fish dishes as well as vegetables and potatoes. Think of it as tartare 2.0!' Sports Toronto Maple Leafs Sunshine Girls World Relationships

Heinz axes classic sauce from UK supermarkets and replaces with rebrand
Launched on May 6, Heinz's newest condiment, called Fish & Chips sauce, replaces the iconic and beloved Tartare sauce, discontinued in 2022 - and it's finger-licking good. Heinz, one of the UK's most popular beloved food brands and condiments, is diving back into the supermarket middle aisle to bring a fresh take on a traditional favourite - remember the Tartare Sauce? Famous brand Heinz takes the lead when it comes to sauces, and its newest condiment is a revamped version of the traditional tartare sauce - and it's aimed to be the best condiment for a cheeky Fish and Chips on a Friday. With a literal name of Fish & Chips Sauce, also known as 'Tartare 2.0', the ingredients include gherkins, dill, salt, parsley and mustard. While the bottle wears the 'Fish & Chips Sauce' label, the ingredients are listed in a style that's similar to the classic tartare sauce. On the packaging, Heinz has also listed it as 'Tartare Sauce', bringing back the nostalgia. The Tartare sauce has been a classic to seafood dishes like the fish and chips, and Heinz has described the new condiment as 'fresh and herby' which was 'posed to become Britain's new go-to pairing for fish dinners - and, of course, the nation's beloved dish, fish & chips.' In a statement about the launch, Heinz added: 'If tartare is the OG fish condiment, then think of Heinz Fish & Chips sauce as Tartare 2.0 – 2025's hot new upgrade… Love tartare? You'll be obsessed. Never tried it? Consider this your tasty gateway to next-level fish & chips.' Heinz's Tartare Sauce got removed from supermarket shelves in 2022. However, it's still available in some restaurants and online. The new Fish & Chips Sauce sells at £3.40 for a 400g bottle, promising to deliver the same good old flavour with a modern twist. Thiago Rapp, director of taste elevation at Heinz, said: "At Heinz, we're always exploring bold and exciting flavours, inspired by the latest food trends and what people across the nation are really craving." "We want to give fans endless flavour possibilities and unexpected pairings that elevate every bite. And when it comes to British classics, nothing quite compares to fish and chips. It's a national treasure, whether enjoyed as a seaside staple, a proper chippy tea on a Friday, or a comforting midweek meal." He concluded: ''We've created a sauce that pays homage to this beloved British dish, crafted to be the perfect companion for every fish-filled occasion.' Introducing the new Fish & Chips sauce, Heinz isn't just bringing back a classic condiment. Whether you're a long-time tartare sauce fan or just curious to try something new, this could be the best condiment sauce for your Friday meals. This follows recent reports from Which? revealing that shoppers prefer supermarket own-brand bargains over big-brand favourites. In Heinz's case, it was revealed that the best ketchup was Lidl 's Batts Tomato Ketchup.

Heinz rebrands Tartare sauce as ‘Fish & Chips Sauce'
The food giant urged consumers to think of its new sauce as 'Tartare 2.0', with the packaging describing the contents as 'Tartare Sauce' and listing ingredients as including gherkins, dill, salt, parsley and mustard. Tartare sauce is traditionally made of mayonnaise, chopped gherkins, capers, and herbs such as tarragon and dill. It is considered a classic accompaniment to seafood dishes including fish and chips. Heinz described its new product as a 'fresh and herby condiment' which was 'poised to become Britain's new go-to pairing for fish dinners – and, of course, the nation's beloved dish, fish & chips'. It went on: 'If tartare is the OG fish condiment, then think of Heinz Fish & Chips sauce as Tartare 2.0 – 2025's hot new upgrade… Love tartare? You'll be obsessed. Never tried it? Consider this your tasty gateway to next-level fish & chips.' Heinz said its own research suggested that Britons were eating more fish – up almost 5% year on year – with 37% of these occasions being fish and chip meals. It found 81% of Britons used various sauces with the dish, with 66% using ketchup, 50% mayonnaise and 45% Tartare sauce. Some 90% of 18 to 34-year-olds expressed an interest in a 'brand new' sauce for fish, the brand said. Thiago Rapp, director of 'taste elevation' at Heinz, said: 'At Heinz, we're always exploring bold and exciting flavours, inspired by the latest food trends and what people across the nation are really craving. 'And when it comes to British classics, nothing quite compares to fish and chips. It's a national treasure, whether enjoyed as a seaside staple, a proper chippy tea on a Friday, or a comforting midweek meal. 'We've created a sauce that pays homage to this beloved British dish, crafted to be the perfect companion for every fish-filled occasion.' Heinz Fish & Chips Sauce has a recommended retail price of £3.39 and is available from Tesco.

London's most expensive fish and chip shop where one meal will set you back £37
How much would you be willing to pay for a portion of fish and chips? Around £7 maybe £15 if you fancy an extra treat, either way, the chances are less than £37 per portion. London's most expensive fish and chip restaurant, Kerridges's Fish & Chips sees meals start at £25 and rise to £80. The restaurant by Michelin star chef Tom Kerridge is set in Harrods and offers a very pricey menu. Harrods shares that Kerridge's Fish & Chips takes "the UK's favourite dish to new heights" offering a menu with "Britain's finest, freshest seafood, all ethically caught and hand-selected by local fishmongers." The restaurant serves up daily catch items to "hand-dived scallops and native lobster" and a range of grilled and deep-fried options using the chef's signature crisp and gluten-free batter. The department store shares that chips are not neglected: "Kerridge does not neglect the chips, which take two days to be prepared before they arrive at your table, piping hot and triple-cooked alongside a choice of dips." With the menu created by a Michelin-starred chef, you can expect the prices to be on the higher end, with Kerridge previously defending the costs. A portion will cost you £37. (Image: Tripadvisor) Speaking to the Radio Times, Kerridge said: "I'm seen as a man of the people, so when I put fish and chips on for £35, they shout at me for it being expensive. "But the people criticising me don't understand how it's priced. "Fish and chips was always seen as cheap, fast food, and I get that because of where I grew up." The most expensive menu item at Kerridges Fish & Chips is unsurprisingly the caviar, with 250g costing £490. The Market Day Fish costs £37, while the Monkfish 'scampi' will set you back £42 both coming with chips and a choice of sauces. The Harrods-based restaurant does offer butties, with the Kerridge's fish finger sandwich priced at £27 and the Pea Fitter Bap at £25. Recommended Reading Although a more expensive choice for fish and chips, the restaurant does have high ratings, with a TripAdvisor score of 4/5. One guest said: "The fish & chips are of an excellent quality and we are glad that we went for the experience." Another guest added: "This place is just incredible! What can I say, food was amazing, and service was spectacular."

Metro Detroit fish fries to check out during Lent
Fried fish season has arrived with the beginning of Lent. Why it matters: From casual lunch spots to upscale restaurants, Metro Detroit's food scene embraces the Christian tradition of serving fish on Fridays. Here are a few places to check out: Tried and true: Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips in the Brightmoor neighborhood has a well-earned reputation as one of the city's best fish restaurants. Adding fried shrimp to your order of fish and chips is worth the splurge. The fish, shrimp and chips combination was $19.50 on our last visit, but Scotty's website says prices have been adjusted due to rising food costs. Church scene: Sweetest Heart of Mary, home to one of the city's most well-known fish fries, is scaling back this year to just one event on March 21, the Free Press reports. Fear not — there are many other churches and community spaces serving Friday fish across Metro Detroit. Fast casual: SuperCrisp in the Cass Corridor area has an Asian-inspired take on the fried fish sandwich with yuzu-ginger whitefish and Kewpie slaw ($11). The sandwich is noticeably heavy when you pick it up — more than enough for lunch on its own. Suburbs: Voyager, Ferndale's award-winning seafood restaurant, has a version of fish and chips on the menu: Yakutat halibut and malt vinegar frites for $31. Wagon Wheel Lounge in Northville is known for its all-you-can-eat Friday fish fry during Lent for $13.
