Fix50 road work in Sacramento to take another year, Caltrans says
More traffic headaches are in store for drivers after Caltrans revealed that the Fix50 project's completion date has been pushed back for an entire year. The work was originally slated to be completed this summer. While being 85% done as of last May, Caltrans says the final expected completion date is now July 2026. Officials say equipment, weather, and crashes are the chief reasons for the delay. "Recently, for example, some structures for signs were needed to be installed, but they had to push back a couple of those signs because the crane that was needed was not available," said Sergio Ochoa Sanchez with Caltrans. New High Occupancy Vehicle lanes and pavement fixes from the Highway 50/Interstate 5 interchange to U.S. 50/Watt Avenue – a total of 14 miles of roadwork – are the project's primary objectives. Other major roadwork projects are also in various stages of completion around Sacramento area freeways, including the Interstate 80 pavement rehabilitation project and the Yolo 80 corridor improvement project.

Westbound lanes of US-50 in Sacramento to be closed for 55 hours
( — Caltrans has announced lane closures for westbound U.S. Highway 50 in Sacramento starting Friday night.•Video above: Construction continues along Interstate 80 ahead of Labor Day According to Caltrans, this is part of the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement 'Fix50' project that continues with a 55-hour closure for the westbound lanes number three and four. This is to remove the current asphalt from the lanes and shoulder 'for continuously reinforced concrete pavement to be poured.' Those lanes will be exit ways to the off-ramp and the work requires a full closure of the 26th Street off-ramp, authorities said. Crews want motorists to use caution when traveling during construction times and expect commercial trucks to be traveling in and out of the work zone, Caltrans said. CHP makes significant drug and weapon seizures during traffic stops Caltrans said that commuters looking to take the off-ramp to 26th Street will be detoured to northbound Business 80 and to take the N Street off-ramp, turn left on N Street, and then merge onto 29th Street. Caltrans said in a statement, 'The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Commuters can expect travel delays as US-50 to SR 99 connector to close for 55 hours for construction
( — The Multimodal Corridor Enhancement 'Fix50' project is set to continue with a 55-hour closure at the westbound Highway 50 to the southbound State Route 99 connector this weekend.•Video above: I-5 in Northern California undergoes emergency construction According to a statement from Caltrans, it is highly recommended for motorists to plan and to expect delays on their commute and to add more travel time for detours. Southbound Route 99 motorists should use southbound I-5 as an alternative route. Caltrans said the detours will start in westbound US 50 motorists to southbound SR 99, continue on westbound US 50, and stay in the right lane to southbound I-5 Los Angeles. Caltrans said, 'Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.' The contractor is scheduled to start the string and pavement work during the closure and asks motorists to use caution when traveling during construction times and expect commercial trucks to be traveling in and out of the work zone, officials stated. The construction is expected to end on March 24 at 5 a.m. According to Caltrans, this project is part of the ongoing work of a $529 million project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy lanes going from Highway 50 to I-5 interchanging to Highway 50 and Watt Avenue. This is where you can learn more information on this project.•Image below: Map of the closure provided by Caltrans Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. New long-term Highway 50 lane shift starts in Sacramento on Monday
SACRAMENTO – Drivers on Highway 50 should be prepared for a traffic shift in lane restrictions in Sacramento as crews continue their work on the Fix50 project. Starting Monday morning, Caltrans will be shifting traffic on the westbound side of the freeway from Stockton Boulevard to 26th Street. The work is part of the ongoing $529 million Fix50 project to rehabilitate pavement along Highway 50 in the Sacramento area. Caltrans is reminding motorists to pay attention to the signal signs. There won't be any lane shifts in the eastbound lane, but drivers will continue to see some possible slowdown overall in the lane shift area. Drivers heading through the area should also watch out for commercial work vehicles moving in and out of the work zone. The work is projected to be completed in July, Caltrans says.
