Army Marks 250 Years of Service and Sacrifice
Hewitt, TX (FOX 44) – The U.S. Army is celebrating its 250th birthday on Saturday, marking a quarter-millennium of service since its founding in 1775.
The milestone honors the Army's legacy of defending the nation, supporting allies, and leading in innovation, strength, and resilience.
The VFW in Hewitt is celebrating at 9 a.m. Saturday, starting with a Flag Day Ceremony where all military flags will be raised.
'At 4 p.m., we're going to start kicking off our Army birthday,' Executive Assistant to Commander Sean Escarciga said. 'So that's going to be cake, food. We're gonna have a fish fry at 7:30. Chicken tenders….if you're not into fish fry, we're going have a band – the Heart of Texas band.'
Celebrations across the country will include ceremonies, parades, historical exhibits, and community events recognizing the service and sacrifice of soldiers past and present.
