Dodge Owners Are Already Sick Of In-Car Pop-Up Ads

It's no secret Dodge and its sister brands Ram and Jeep have a serious problem with public image lately. The unpopular move to end Hemi V8s, pushing electrification, cancelling the Challenger, etc. have angered so many customers, dealers are struggling to move inventory. But the latest development, in-car pop-up ads, is the last straw for some last week, owners of Dodges, Jeeps, and Rams were treated to pop-up ads prompting them to sign up for FlexCare Extended Care Premium extended warranties. Before drivers could use their infotainment screen, they had to physically tap on the 'X' to dismiss the ad.
Others are getting in-vehicle pop-up ads for SiriusXM All Access. In other words, there could be more ads coming to your Dodge, Jeep, or Ram even if you closed out the one.
Some vehicle owners have complained online that they've had the ad pop up repeatedly. Supposedly, this is because of a glitch, but it's still not a good look.
It's a running joke that after you buy a car, third party companies will relentlessly pursue you about purchasing extended warranties, so to have an automaker do this sort of thing isn't viewed favorably.
For one, this is viewed as Stellantis and its sub-brands trying to squeeze revenue out of its existing customer base. People are getting tired of being nickled and dimed every time they turn around these days, so a move like this doesn't sit well.
While not as big of a public relations flub, some are likening this to when BMW tried charging a subscription for features like heated seats.
On top of that, consumers are beyond tired of constantly being subjected to advertisements everywhere they go. It used to be that other than hearing commercials on the radio and seeing billboards on the side of the road, your car itself was one space you could get away from it all.
It's a brave new world and we're all living in it.
