Sharjah-Damascus Flight Rerouted to Saudi Arabia amid Israel-Iran Tensions
Syrian Airlines announced that a passenger plane that took off from Sharjah and was heading to Damascus was diverted mid-flight towards Saudi Arabia, according to Gulf News.
The airlines assured that Flight RB 502 landed safely at Tabuk Airport on Sunday.
This comes amid growing tensions and escalating conflict between Israel and Iran since June 13.
Interestingly, Syrian Airlines noted that passengers were welcomed and accommodated in a hotel in Tabuk thanks to the assistance of Saudi authorities.
The airlines announced on Sunday schedule adjustments for Flights 443/444 between Damascus and Istanbul after emphasizing the safety of airspace for this route. Flight 443 will depart Damascus at 15:40, arriving in Istanbul at 18:20. Meanwhile, the return Flight 444 will depart Istanbul at 19:20 and land in Damascus at 21:40.
On June 13, Israel launched a wave of airstrikes on Iran under the name of Operation Rising Lion. The military campaign targeted Iran's nuclear facilities and killed top military commanders and nuclear scientists.
As a response, Iran launched a retaliatory wave of missiles against Israel and targeted Tel Aviv. Israel also killed three more Iranian nuclear scientists, raising the total number of scientists slain to nine, according to Gulf News.
Currently, both countries are trading missiles and attacks amid intensifying efforts to halt the conflict.
