She Was Missing for Days — Then Police Found a Burn Barrel, and a Chilling Story Began to Unfold
Logan Rogers, 28, is charged with murder after remains were discovered in a burn barrel in his backyard Autumn Strickland, 38, was last seen in the early morning hours of May 16 near a downtown Franklin hotel Police believe that Rogers was driving Strickland's 2012 Kia Soul when she was fatally hit about a mile and a half from the downtown hotel An Alabama man is accused by police of allegedly striking a woman twice with her own vehicle and then taking her remains to his home where they were later found by officers. Logan Rogers, 28, is charged with murder after human remains, believed to be of 38-year-old Autumn Strickland, were discovered in a burn barrel at his Florence home on Tuesday, May 20. 'We do believe they are hers, but we can't confirm that 100 percent until they have been forensically analyzed,' Florence Police Department officer Joshua Meza tells PEOPLE. Strickland, a mother of one, disappeared in the early morning hours of May 17 after she was last seen on video walking with some people near the Stricklin Hotel on Court Street in downtown Florence. She was reported missing on May 18. At the time, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Strickland 'may be living with a condition that may impair her judgment." Police believe that Rogers was driving Strickland's 2012 Kia Soul when she was fatally hit in a business and residential area about a mile and a half from the hotel. 'Video evidence supports that Logan Rogers struck the victim twice and that this act was intentional due to the location and manner in which it was carried out,' according to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE. Meza says Rogers and Strickland 'might have been initially in the car together, but I can't confirm.' After he allegedly struck Strickland twice, Meza says, he abandoned her vehicle on Helton Drive — about a mile and a half away — and then got a ride to pick up his truck in the downtown area. From there, he allegedly drove back to the crime scene, picked up Strickland's body, and brought her back to his home. 'I believe that this body was returned to his residence and recovered by law enforcement during the execution of the search warrant on May 20, 2025,' according to the complaint. According to Meza, remains were found in a burn barrel on Rogers' property. 'I know there was some fire at some point,' says Meza, who added that the two were strangers. Rogers was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charges were upgraded after the remains were discovered at his home. He is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 14. Read the original article on People

‘We want answers and justice': Family of 13 year old Ryland Calvert speaking out two weeks after deadly shooting
COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — It's been 2 weeks since 13-year-old Ryland Calvert was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Florence, and his family is now speaking out. 'He was an amazing athlete; he wanted to make it,' said Tiffany Calvert, Ryland's mother. 'He had the biggest heart, when you got to know him he was so loving'. Attorneys for former Decatur police officer ask to move back murder trial, say state doesn't oppose moving it Calvert said her son was taken way too soon. 'He would have been 14 on April 21; we were waiting on track to start up,' Calvert said. Ryland was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Florence just two weeks ago. 'You know you're in denial, really. You really you go through a lot of now because that night I just slept on the couch and I usually don't just wait, thinking he was gonna come through the doors, you know,' Calvert said. Colbert County implements storm shelter program ensuring citizens are safe after severe weather Calvert says she misses him every day. 'We miss the small things, the momma, 'momma,' he didn't call me mom it was always momma and every time he'd say it, I would say 'what' because I knew he wanted something when he'd give me that 'momma,'' Calvert said. Ryland dreamed of running track at the collegiate level. Ryland was ranked seventh in the country for the junior Olympics in track. 'He was good, he was stocky, he was muscular and he was just fast,' Calvert said. Calvert said two weeks after the tragic shooting, she and her family just want answers and justice. 'We just want justice, whoever it falls on, we've said it from day one, if our son was in the wrong we have to admit he made a mistake but if he wasn't we want justice as well,' Calvert said. They hope that no matter the outcome, they can keep Ryland's name and memory alive. 'Something greater will come from this and I do believe that, but is a mom, right now, that's really hard to hear because I'm selfish and I want him here but I do know something. Something will come. I don't know what it is but will,' Calvert said. News 19 reached out to the Florence Police Department for an update on this incident. Florence PD tells News 19 that they are still investigating. Bank robbery suspect was killed and 2 others were injured in an exchange of gunfire, officials say
FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) — A law enforcement officer shot and killed a bank robbery suspect Tuesday in north Alabama during an exchange of gunfire, state officials said. A police officer and a bystander were also wounded during the shooting. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the fatal shooting that occurred in Florence. Louis Michael Hill, 26, of Rogersville was killed in the shooting, the agency said. Deputies with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office and officers with the Florence Police Department were responding to a call about a bank robbery, a news release from the state agency said. The suspect's vehicle became disabled during a chase. 'While attempting to steal another vehicle, Hill presented a firearm and fired at law enforcement officers. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Hill,' state agency officials wrote in the news release. The agency said a person in the vehicle that the suspect was attempting to steal, as well as an officer with the Florence Police Department, were struck by gunfire. Their injuries were not life-threatening. Center Star Fire/Rescue, a small fire department in north Alabama, identified one of its firefighters, Grace McClusky, as the injured bystander. The department wrote in a Facebook post that McClusky came upon the scene of the car crash and 'immediately pulled over to render aid, unaware that the individual involved was engaged in a police pursuit with local law enforcement.' 'Without hesitation, she acted in accordance with her training, prioritizing the well-being of those in need,' the department wrote. The fire department said McClusky is recovering at home. A witness told WAFF that the man began shooting after crashing his car. 'And he got out and ran toward another red car and tried to open the door. He couldn't get into the car, so you could see where he gave up and just made his way to the police officers just aiming at them and shooting at them.' Kaden Agee told WAFF.
