Wildwood Trust: 'New enclosure will support lynx breeding plans'
A new lynx enclosure will be "a major step forward" in a Kent wildlife charity's ambitions to see the species returned to the British countryside, a spokesperson has Trust has begun construction on a new enclosure at its wildlife park near Canterbury which it said will offer an immersive visitor experience and support future breeding Habben, head of zoo operations, said: "Our ambition is to breed lynx in the future so this facility will be able to accommodate that, but as much as anything, this is about creating a really exciting habitat and showcasing the species to the public."He said the trust believed lynx should be back in the British countryside. "Lynx form an exciting part of our ecosystems and our future, and we hope this new enclosure can help dispel misleading assumptions about this native species," he trust said four lynx that were illegally released in the Cairngorms in January had reignited public debate about the species' wild cats were once native to Britain but were driven to extinction 500 to 1,000 years ago through habitat loss and are listed on the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976, so lynx keeping is licensed by local authorities and the animals cannot be released unless into a secure new enclosure will have a raised walkway, set to open later in the year, for viewing the lynx from multiple angles. It will be the new home for the park's lynx Flossie and Torridon, currently being housed at Dartmoor Zoo while the build is underway. Sally Holt, head of carnivores and small mammals at Wildwood, said: "We are very grateful to Dartmoor Zoo for providing a temporary home for our lynx while we construct their significantly larger and more complex habitat."This new facility will feature mature trees for climbing and exploration, as well as expansive platforms and diverse branching for roaming."The first phase of the project, including the main paddock and indoor areas, is due to be complete for the summer when the lynx will return to Kent.

Mama Newfoundland Tries to Escape ‘Puppy Attack' in Epic Game of ‘The Floor Is Lava'
Mom life is not easy, no matter your species. Worrying about another being's life in addition to your own is never goin g to be easy, and it's not something everyone can do. With a job as hard as that, there comes a clear need for balance, and a need for a break. On Tuesday, April 15th, one mama Newfoundland found her break in the funniest place. When her puppies started gearing up to attack her, she sought higher ground and left them all in the dust: Newfie Pups are wonderful, but they're admittedly a little overbearing. I'm glad she decided to take the high road! There are three grown Newfies in this house: Flossie, Luna, and Bumble. The one in this video is Flossie, who recently had a fresh litter of puppies. The pups also torment their poor aunties, but most of the time, they've after mom more than anything. She loves it... Realistically, getting away from them is pretty easy: she, a full-grown Newfoundland, can hop up on just about anything. The puppies can't climb at all yet, and she's using that to her advantage. Luckily, by the time they're big enough to go after her, they'll be just about ready for their forever homes. Mommy breaks are vital for a dog postpartum! She'll obviously need to be around a lot for feeding and general care, and she probably won't want a ton of breaks in the early days, but she will eventually. As puppies begin gaining self-sufficiency, so should she! Not allowing your dog a break from her puppies can result in aggression toward them, which could turn catastrophic if it goes unnoticed. Luckily, it's an easily-solved problem: let her out to go potty, get a drink on her own, and even play a little. She needs love, too. Flossie gets all the breaks she needs, but she's also incredibly smart. When those puppies started attacking, she knew just where to go! 🐶🐾🐾

‘Stay out of trouble. Just do the right thing:' 102-year-old woman's secret to a long life
'Stay out of trouble. Just do the right thing,' said Flossie Pope when asked the secret to living a long life. Pope turns 102 years old on Saturday, March 8. She currently lives in Visalia at J & M Elderly Care, where she celebrated her birthday a little early, on Thursday. Pope was surrounded by family, caretakers, hospice nurse, and Visalia Mayor Brett Taylor, to mark the special day. Flowers, cake and gifts helped make the morning festive. The Visalia City Council and Tulare County's Board of Supervisors honored Pope with certificates of recognition to commemorate and honor her 102 birthday. When reflecting on how much the world has changed in her lifetime, Pope said, 'The good Lord made it possible for me to live a good life. I've seen too many changes to even remember.' Pope was born in Imperial, California in 1923. She was the third child out of nine. Her father was a farmer and worked the fields using horses and a plow. Pope's niece Barbara Booker said that her aunt always worked hard. Pope worked for Sprigs Electric in Visalia for over 20 years. 'I was raised in farming country," Pope said. I didn't even know what a tractor was. We used horses in the fields.' "She lived a good life," Booker said. "She took care of herself." Pope and her husband George built and lived in the first adobe home in Tulare for 70 years. The house is still standing on South P Street. She was the mother of one son. Ginger Grahlman has been Pope's hospice nurse for the last five years, seeing her twice a week. 'Miss Flossie is a kind soul, has a smile that is contagious to anyone who crosses her path. She is full of wisdom, love and positivity,' Grahlman said, 'Flossie's outlook of life is not sweating the small things, just enjoying everyday as it comes, along with a few Werther's Originals.'
