Teen accused of ramming police officer with moped in downtown Boston

An 18-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon after police say he hit an officer with a moped. Kwest Howard, of Dorchester, faces a litany of criminal charges in connection with the incident at 4:38 p.m. Monday in Downtown Crossing, Boston Police said in a statement. Officers conducting traffic enforcement near Washington Street saw Howard's moped going the wrong direction. The moped stopped around 367 Washington St., at which point police approached to initiate a traffic stop, the statement read. Howard is accused of suddenly accelerating the bike as police approached, then turning left onto Franklin Street in the direction of one of the officers. The officer attempted to signal for Howard to stop, but was hit by the bike, according to the statement. The impact threw the officer back and caused the bike to crash into a pole, scattering debris on Franklin Street. After the collision, police say, Howard fled on foot but was detained with the help of a bystander. 'During the arrest, Howard actively resisted officers' attempts to place him in custody, creating a disturbance in the area,' police wrote. 'As Howard's behavior began to draw a crowd, he made threats to shoot officers.' Howard is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, threatening to commit a crime and disorderly conduct. He also received several citations for criminal and civil motor vehicle violations, including failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. The officer hit by the moped was not injured. Boston police say they are continuing their efforts to 'address unsafe and unlawful operation of mopeds and scooters in the downtown area.' Deadly hazards trigger recall for high chair sold on Amazon

A high chair product sold on Amazon is being recalled. The Boyro Baby Convertible High Chairs pose a deadly fall hazard to babies because the restraint system is not attached to the product and the locks or latches can fail, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. In addition, the high chairs pose an entrapment hazard because the seat and tray is large enough that a child could become entrapped in it. The four-in-one high chairs were sold in green, gray and pink and have a removable seat cushion, a detachable tray, a footrest and storage space underneath the seat. The chairs convert from a high chair into a low chair, rocking chair and slide. Around 5,400 of these chairs were sold on Amazon from October 2023 through November 2024 for $70 to $90, the commission wrote. No injuries or incidents have been reported. Consumers are urged to stop using the product and disassemble the high chairs 'immediately' and contact Boyro Baby for instructions on receiving a full refund. The instructions will include directions on how to cut the restraint system and seat cushions — then to email photos of the disassembled and destroyed pieces of the high chair to boyrobaby@ Once the photos have been received, Boyro Baby will issue a refund.
