Behind the music - Let's Be Frank
Experimental jazz act and Frank Sinatra covers band Let's Be Frank have released their debut single, a cover of Fly Me To The Moon. We asked led singer James Gallen the BIG questions . . . The band was founded in November 2023 by Dublin City University jazz students and they are "on a mission to rekindle the soul of the Rat Pack era, delivering fresh takes on Sinatra classics with youthful energy, and sharp arrangements". "Our goal is to capture the elegance and swagger of Sinatra, but give it a heartbeat that feels relevant today," says James. Tell us three things about yourself . . . I'm a 20-year-old singer/songwriter and Jazz music is my happy place. Great to sing with the band Let's be Frank, we're all Jazz and Contemporary Music students at Dublin City University and we bring a fresh take on classic Sinatra tunes and everything Jazz in between. The band members are Joey Leamy, Theo Johnson, Sean Crehan and Jarlath Byrne and we love what we do! I'm happy to be stepping in to a career in music. We've released the first single from our upcoming first album Let's Be Frank, which we had a privilege of recording with Stu Gray at Jealoustown Studios, with mastering by the great Billy Farrell. How would you describe your music? A modern uplift on the great classics of the 1950s and 60s. Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker and, in terms of vocals, I'm a big fan of Mel Tormè. With this mix, you've got an exceptional baritone, a world-class trumpeter and a distinct voice of velvet that stood out of its time. What was the first gig you ever went to? I'd love to say it was Sinatra, but I wasn't around when he was singing in his prime! I believe Take That at Croke park was my first gig - great melodies but not sure that's my thing (but thanks to parents for the ticket!). What was the first record you ever bought? Frank Sinatra's Watertown album from 1970. Really, this is my favourite album to date. It tells a wonderful story in just ten tracks and, in many ways, is a forgotten masterpiece. If you've any interest in hearing a unique music offering I recommend you give it a listen. What's your favourite song right now? I Would be in Love Anyway from Watertown. Our upcoming first album will include our own interpretation of that song. Favourite lyric of all time? "Can't you see that you're leading me on, But it's just what I want you to do, Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost, Thats why I'm following you" - Misty by the pianist Erroll Garner, 1954. If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be? It has got to be Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma (1945), which is an English version of an older French song, Les Feuilles Mortes (The Dead Leaves). It's really the go-to song for anyone with a love of jazz music, and it's such good fun to improvise as a singer. Where can people find your music/more information? Liam Payne died without leaving a will
Liam Payne left a fortune of £24.3 million but died without writing a will, according to court documents. The One Direction singer fell to his death from a Buenos Aires hotel room in October last year, aged 31. Court documents from the Probate Registry show that Payne died intestate. His estate had a gross value of £28,594,888, and the net value amounts to £24,279,728 Payne granted power of administration of his estate to Cheryl Tweedy, his former partner and mother of his eight-year-old son, Bear. The second administrator is Richard Bray, an entertainment industry lawyer. Under the rules of intestacy, the money can be placed in a trust for Bear until he turns 18. Administration was granted by the High Court of Justice on May 1. Lilly Toop, a private client solicitor at the law firm, Shakespeare Martineau, said his failure to write a will meant his partner, Ms Cassidy, would not inherit anything from him. She said: 'UK law is very clear and without a will, estates are distributed according to a set of fixed rules. 'In Liam's case, his son Bear will inherit the entirety of his free estate in the UK, which will be put in a trust and managed until he becomes an adult. Liam's partner is not legally entitled to anything, despite being with the singer for two years prior to his death.' A court in Argentina dropped charges in February of criminal negligence against three out of the five people who had been charged in connection with Payne's death. The singer had found fame when Simon Cowell formed One Direction on the ITV talent show The X Factor in 2010. Payne first auditioned in 2008 when he was 14, singing Frank Sinatra's Fly Me To The Moon, with Cowell telling him to return to the talent show two years later. Payne died on October 16 last year after falling from a third-floor balcony. Toxicology tests revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his body, according to the prosecutor's office of Argentina. At the time of his death, Payne was in a relationship with Kate Cassidy, a US social media influencer. She said that the star had written her a note saying they would be engaged or married within a year. Cassidy had been staying with Payne during their Argentinian trip but flew back to the US shortly before his death. In a recent podcast interview, she discussed their last conversation. 'I remember sitting there with him and I was going on and on and on, and saying to Liam how much I love him. And he laughed and interrupted me, and said to me, 'Kate, you're going to miss your flight… you're acting like this is the last time you're ever going to see me again.' 'Just to even look back in time and really know that that was the last time I was ever going to see him again is just so chilling.' Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. Celebrity Power Couple Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost Snap Up Manhattan Penthouse For $13 Million
Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Celebrity power couple, actress Scarlett Johansson and her husband, longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Colin Jost, recently snapped up a pre-war penthouse on Manhattan's Park Avenue, according to The Wall Street Journal. The sales price, $13 million, was the same as what sellers Craig and Deborah Cogut paid for it back in 2006. Craig is the chief executive of Connecticut-based Pegasus Capital Advisors, a private equity impact-investment firm. The 6,000-square-foot, six-bedroom triplex dates back to the 1930s and overlooks Midtown Manhattan and Central Park. The Coguts first listed it for $27.5 million in 2018. It is also 2.5 miles from the Saturday Night Live studio. Don't Miss: If there was a new fund backed by Jeff Bezos offering a ? Inspired by Uber and Airbnb – Deloitte's fastest-growing software company is transforming 7 billion smartphones into income-generating assets – The Journal speculated that co-ops are less valuable than newer, amenity-filled condos in Manhattan. High-profile younger celebrities usually favor the latter. Johansson and Jost are especially close-lipped about their relationship, family, and homes. Besides their latest purchase, the two New Yorkers have previously owned homes in Los Angeles, New York, and The Hamptons. Scarlett Johansson has routinely topped the list of highest-paid actresses in the world, earning $56 million in 2019, thanks to her role in Marvel's "The Avengers: Endgame", which grossed $2.8 billion. Johansson negotiated a back-end payment amounting to $35 million. According to Forbes, she was the 19th highest-paid actor of 2024, with gross earnings of $25 million staring in 'Fly Me To The Moon,' with Channing Tatum and voicing the animated movie 'Transformers One.' 'Just because I'm the top-grossing actress of all time does not mean I'm the highest-paid,' Johansson told Marie Claire in 2017. 'I've had to fight for everything that I have. It's such a fickle and political industry. Some people felt I should talk about my personal struggle in order to shed a spotlight on the greater issue. Maybe I'm being presumptuous, but I assumed it was obvious that women in all positions struggle for equality. It's always an uphill battle and fight. My experience with my close female friends and family is that the struggle is real for everybody. Everyone has been discriminated against or harassed—sexism is real.' In 2021, Johansson filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS), alleging that the company breached her contract when it simultaneously released 'Black Widow' on its Disney+ streaming service and in theaters. Johannson claimed that her earnings were based on the film's box office performance, and the studio refused to renegotiate, costing her an estimated $50 million. Deadline reported that the two sides eventually settled out of court in a deal that saw Johnsson walk away with $40 million. Scarlett Johansson reveals extent she went to star in new Jurassic World film
Scarlett Johansson has revealed the lengths she went to be cast in the new Jurassic World film. The Fly Me To The Moon star, 40, will star in Jurassic World Rebirth as Zora Bennet, a former mercenary leading a group of scientists on a hunt for dinosaur blood that could cure heart disease. Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, and David Iacono have also been cast in the film, directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla). Speaking to Vanity Fair, Johansson said she spent years monitoring trade publications for reports of any new Jurassic Park films and flagging news to her agents. 'I was really crazy about the [original] film, and I slept in a Jurassic Park pup tent in my bedroom I shared with my sister for a year,' she said. 'Anytime the trades would report a new Jurassic movie, I would forward to my agents like, 'Hey, I'm available.'' Johansson said she was filming reshoots for the Marvel film Black Widow at Pinewood Studio in 2020 while Chris Pratt and Bruce Dallas Howard were on the next door soundstage filming Jurassic World Dominion. 'I was like, 'Show me the sets! I want to participate!'' the actor said. The Vicky Cristina Barcelona star later landed a meeting with Steven Spielberg, who directed the original 1993 Jurassic Park film and its 1997 sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. 'I hadn't really sat with him and talked about work, and we spent hours just catching up and chatting,' Johansson said. 'Then at some point, many hours into it, he was like, 'Wait, we're supposed to talk about Jurassic. Do I hear you're a huge superfan?'' she recalled. 'I said, 'It is actually true. I'm confirming. I'm a huge superfan.'' Johansson admitted she refrained from telling Spielberg about the Jurassic Park tent she slept in for a year because she didn't want him to think she was 'this weird stalker'. However, the actor now regrets not telling the director about the extent of her Jurassic fandom. 'Obviously with all the Avengers stuff you meet so many fans who are profoundly moved by the characters and the world that you're a part of,' she said. 'I get it. It's always wonderful to meet people like that. I probably should have just told him. But I was like, 'Just be professional. Don't seem desperate. Don't mention the tent.'' Last June, Johansson told that she spent a decade trying to get a role in the dinosaur franchise and told her agents she would even play a character who dies 'in the first five minutes'. 'I'm such an enormous fan of the franchise and a huge nerd for it. I'm just like, I can't even, I'm pinching myself,' the Black Widow star said. 'I've been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years. I'm like, 'I'll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I'll do the craft service!' I'll do anything for it. 'The fact that it's happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable. I can't believe it.'
