Telangana has become modelstate through strongleadership, says KTR
Hyderabad: If there is strong leadership and commitment towards the people, any state can progress, and Telangana stands as an example of that, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said during the eynote address on 'Why Telangana Matters: Steady Growth and Navigating the Global Economic Landscape' at the Bridge India Week 2025 conference in London on Friday. He added that in its nine years of rule, the BRS had become a role model for many other states in India. He said that the BRS' leadership is a testament to what resolute leadership and a sincere commitment to transforming lives can accomplish. He shared insights into the revolutionary policies and transformative changes introduced by the BRS govt in the development and welfare sectors. He said that Telangana's distinction lies not only in generating wealth, but also in ensuring its equitable distribution among the most marginalised sections of society. "Under KCR's leadership as chief minister, the BRS govt achieved an exemplary balance between welfare and development, implementing progressive initiatives unmatched in India's post-independence history,' said the BRS working president. KTR explained how Telangana rose from 12th position to the top spot in terms of per capita income, offering a model for other Indian states to emulate. He described the Kaleshwaram project as an engineering marvel comparable to China's Three Gorges Dam. As the world's largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, it pumps water 80 metres above sea level to irrigate 4.5 million acres per season. In a country where providing clean drinking water to every household remained a distant dream, Telangana achieved this goal through the Mission Bhagiratha scheme. He also discussed Telangana's economic growth, highlighting its 156% increase in per capita income within a decade. This has elevated the state from 12th position in 2014 to first place by 2023. He credited the BRS' industry-friendly policies and the TSiPASS scheme with attracting global tech giants and generating employment. Employment opportunities for local young people increased, with jobs in the IT sector rising from 3,23,000 in 2014 to over one million by 2023. IT exports, valued at Rs 56,000 crore in 2014, surged to Rs 2,41,000 crore by 2023 — a testament to KCR's visionary leadership, he said.

Silchar faces severe flooding as monsoon rains begin
1 2 Silchar: Continuous rainfall since Thursday night has resulted in severe waterlogging and flooding across Silchar. Major areas, including Link Road, Hailakandi Road, Ghaniala, Tarapur Shivbari Road, Panchayat Road, and the lanes and by-lanes of Sonai Road, are submerged, severely impacting daily activities. The flooding has been attributed to the city's poor drainage infrastructure and delays in completing drainage projects. Many localities lack proper drainage systems, making Silchar particularly vulnerable to waterlogging even after brief rain showers. With the monsoon setting in, residents and traders fear worsening conditions and potential disaster if urgent corrective measures are not taken. On Friday, pedestrians, including school and college students, struggled through knee-deep water, risking safety. Blocked drains have forced rainwater onto roads, hampering transportation and business activities. Shopkeepers in Sonai Road and Hailakandi Road voiced concerns over rising water levels damaging their goods and livelihoods. "Every year, we face the same problem. Authorities make promises, but the drainage work remains incomplete," lamented a trader. Send daily Covid report, Bengal govt asks pvt hosps, labs
1 2 3 Kolkata: Amid the rising cases of Covid in the country, the state health department has issued its first advisory since the pandemic asking all private hospitals and labs to report all positive cases in a particular format on a daily basis. The labs across the state have also started preserving the Covid-19 positive samples, anticipating that they might be asked to send those for genome sequencing to detect the virus strain circulating in Bengal. The state health department has not yet released the actual Covid load in the state but there is already an uptick. At least six more cases surfaced on Thursday. Hospitals have also started increasing tests, particularly for patients with various comorbidities and symptoms of the infection. Sources said Medica Superspecialty Hospital currently has four Covid positive patients, one of whom was admitted on Thursday. While none of the four are having severe illness, doctors said the hospital admission was advised as they are vulnerable to developing severe symptoms due to existing health conditions. "For almost a year, we did not see any Covid patients. "So far, we know the virus circulating elsewhere is a variant of concern due to high transmissibility, even as it is known to cause mild infection," said internal medicine specialist, Rahul Jain of Belle Vue Clinic.
