UPDATE: Dog dies, homes damaged in Ashwaubenon house fire However, when crews arrived, there was no active fire. Firefighters credited FireStop Rangehood Fire Suppressors that had been installed on a stove, which were activated when the fire began. The FireStop Rangehood Fire Suppressors are small canisters above the stove that release an extinguishing agent to suppress a fire. The damage was contained to only the stove and some nearby cabinets, but without the suppressors, firefighters say the damage would have been much worse. Fire crews then checked for extension and cleared the apartment of smoke. Green Bay Police investigating death after body recovered from East River It was noted that the apartment had no working smoke detectors, so firefighters installed two new smoke detectors in the apartment. Smoke detectors are needed on every floor at a minimum, and should be in every bedroom. They also should be tested regularly to make sure they are still functioning properly. This incident is also a good reminder to never leave any cooking unattended. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue No additional information was provided. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
