Events across Cumbria for Great Big Green Week 2025
Cumberland Council has announced its support for the Great Big Green Week, described as the UK's biggest celebration of community action on climate and nature.
The nationwide campaign, taking place this week, from Saturday June 7 to Sunday, June 15, aims to bring together individuals, community groups and organisations to take part in activities related to environmental awareness and sustainability.
The 2025 theme, "Let's swap together for good," encourages everyday swaps to contribute to a more sustainable future.
The Food Cumberland Partnership has provided grants of up to £200 for groups within the Cumberland Council area to host events as part of the Big Local Lunch 2025, celebrated nationally over the weekend of June 7 and June 8.
This initiative aims to bring communities together to celebrate food grown in the area, encourage healthy eating, and demonstrate ways to reduce food waste and avoid single-use plastics.
Cumberland councillor Bob Kelly, executive member for Cumberland environment and planning, said: "Great Big Green Week offers an ideal moment to reflect on how our everyday choices impact the environment and what positive changes we can make.
"Swapping together—whether it's sharing skills, resources, or knowledge—helps build stronger communities and supports climate-friendly living.
"There are a fantastic range of activities taking place across Cumberland, and I encourage everyone to join in.
"Together, we can make real progress in reducing our environmental footprint."
