Manjung council slaps RM7,000 in fines on food outlets
LUMUT: A total of 28 compounds, amounting to RM7,000, were issued by the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) to eight food premises recently for various offences, including poor hygiene standards.
MPM president Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri said the enforcement was carried out by the council's Food Premises and Hawkers Unit under the Licensing and Enforcement Department.
Inspections were conducted on 17 premises within MPM's administrative area, Kosmo! reported.
"Among the offences detected were the unauthorised placement of tables without approval from the local authority and failure to renew business operating licences," he said today.
One premise was issued a 24-hour closure notice after it was found to be operating in unsatisfactory hygienic conditions, Faizal said.
Faizal also said MPM will continue to carry out scheduled inspections to ensure full compliance with public health and food safety regulations.
"MPM reminds all food premise operators and traders to comply with all the conditions and rules set by the authorities," he said.
Faizal said firm action will be taken against any party that fails to comply, to safeguard hygiene, safety and consumer wellbeing.
