TCSO Sheriff receives lifetime achievement, service award
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez received the American Jail Association Conference's highest honor — the Francis R. 'Dick' Ford Distinguished Service Award.
The award recognizes professional excellence in the field of local corrections.
Travis Co. corrections officers train to better handle inmates with mental health issues
Travis County said Hernandez has shown her dedication for 43 years:
1981: Hernandez began her career as a night dispatcher in Llano, Texas.
1988: Hernandez moved to Austin and served as a deputy with the Travis County Constable Precinct 3 Office.
1992: Hernandez was hired as a sergeant investigator for the Travis County District Attorney's Office.
2005: Hernandez advanced to Chief of Investigations.
2016: Hernandez ran for the office of Travis County Sheriff
2017: Hernandez was elected Sheriff and took office.
2025: Hernandez nears the end of her second term as Travis County Sheriff.
'She passionately believes no one can handle complex challenges alone and immediately focused her attention on strategic partnerships. In her two terms as sheriff, she has established partnerships with various organizations, leveraging their expertise to multiply positive impacts,' said the county in its nomination for Hernandez.
