File- A phone call took place between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Mr. Steve Witkoff, US Special Envoy to the Middle East, on Thursday, March 6. CAIRO - 12 June 2025: In a phone call with the US special envoy for the Middle East, Egyptian Minister of Foreign affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty called for continuing the existing US-Iranian negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file to prevent the region from sliding into further instability. Abdelatty's call came following the regional escalation took place when the US partially evacuated its diplomatic mission from Iraq and other missions from Bahrain and Kuwait after the latest round of talks [the fifth round since April] on the Iranian nuclear file in Italy reached deadlock as Washington seeks to prevent Tehran from enriching the Uranuim. However, Iran threatened that it could respond by attacking the US military bases in the Middle East. It has been reported that Oman is expected to host the sixth round of talks on Sunday. Abdelatty added that the negotiations represent an important opportunity to achieve calm and avoid escalation. This call also comes as part of the ongoing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the United States regarding developments in the Middle East. The call addressed the joint efforts made by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to timely reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, secure the release of hostages and prisoners, and ensure full access for humanitarian aid to the strip to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza. The Egyptian minister of foreign affairs emphasized the need to reach a permanent and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that meets the aspirations of the peoples of the Middle East for peace, security, and sustainable stability.
