Today's Trends That Won't Age Well In A Decade
The other day, I looked back at old photos of myself from nearly 10 years ago. Let's just say my hair, makeup, and clothes certainly did not stand the test of time.
It didn't help that I overfilled my eyebrows into super dark, thick blocks in 2016.
I can only imagine the things we'll cringe at in another 10 years, but it looks like the internet already has its guesses. In one Reddit thread (which you can see here), people shared the modern trends they think everyone will regret in a decade, and I'm curious as to what you think.
I've rounded up 18 different responses below:
"Young people getting botox. That is a fucking SLIPPERY slope."
–obviouslyanonymous7
"Buccal fat removal."
"Brazilian butt lifts."
"People posting their entire lives and intricacies on social media."
–ForeverYoungB
"Shoe-horning 'AI' into every product and service…whether it needs it or not."
"I'm hearing a lot of ads for Speechify. Nothing against the technology, it has helpful applications. I listen to audiobooks frequently myself. But with the way reading comprehension scores are looking in this country, it might not be the best for everything all the time. I hate to think we might eventually be living in a country where literacy is an old person thing, the same way illiteracy once was."
"I'm hoping that we will think the use of plastic and Styrofoam for everything was ridiculous."
–jaeger-the-great
"Toxic positivity! 'Good vibes only' mantras and all that crud. When in fact it is healthy to feel sadness or anger and deal with our negativity."
"Tattoos of anything referencing a current event in your life. There's already a lot of people who regret a name who's no longer in their life."
"Painting and decorating everything gray. It ages faster than any design and architectural trend in history. I can't stand the way colors die from it all!"
–freekin-bats11
"Normalizing dysfunction and calling it empowerment."
"Attacking and criminalizing knowledge."
"Lip filler."
"I think people will look back on photos and realize they were 'lip filler blind.' Much like how people now make fun of how they used to make their eyebrows extremely dark and bushy, and call it 'eyebrow blind.' Same with 'blush blindness' by applying too much blush."–accomplished_elk4332
"Ghosting."
"Crop tops and pregnancy."
"Nicotine pouches. Vaping."
–SmellOfParanoia
"Mullets. They looked just as stupid in the 80s."
"Spending ridiculous amounts on bachelor's/bachelorette's weekends. Weddings, proms, prom-posals, proposals, and gender reveals included."
Can you think of a modern trend that belongs on this list? Let me know in the comments!
