Need a U.S. passport? How to apply for one in Miami without an appointment
If you need a U.S. passport without an appointment, you better act fast.
On Saturday, June 14, people can apply at a 'passport fair' in Miami-Dade County. Organized by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs, the event will also offer assistance to those applying for a U.S. passport for the first time.
According to the Department of State, only one post office in Miami will host the passport fair in June. Here are the details:
Passport Fair in Miami
The U.S. Passport Acceptance Fair has already been held in various cities and states across the country. Now, it's coming to Miami-Dade this Saturday, June 14, along with other Florida cities including Gulf Breeze and Milton.
In South Florida, the one-day event will run from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Snapper Creek USPS post office, 11000 SW 104th St.
The event is designed to make the process easier for both adults and minors applying for a U.S. passport for the first time, using Form DS-11.
Adults who are eligible to renew their passport using Form DS-82 can apply online or by mail at any time and don't need to attend the fair.

Will you receive your passport at the fair?
Passport acceptance facilities only offer routine and expedited processing services — they don't issue passports on-site. Each application is mailed to the Department of State for review and approval.
If you need a passport for travel within two weeks, schedule an appointment at one of the 26 passport agencies or centers across the country.
Another passport fair will also be held in July, but no Miami or South Florida locations are scheduled for that month.
What documents do you need to apply?
▪ Completed DS-11 application form (do not sign until instructed by the acceptance agent)
▪ Proof of U.S. citizenship (such as an original naturalization certificate)
▪ Government-issued photo ID (driver's license or state ID)
▪ Photocopies of citizenship and identity documents
▪ Passport photo (USPS offers photo services onsite)
Fees: $130 for the passport book application plus a $35 acceptance fee. Form DS-11 also allows you to apply for a passport card, which costs $65, but is only valid for domestic flights and sea travel to nearby countries.
For minors applying for a passport
If you're applying for a passport for a minor, keep the following in mind:
▪ Provide a document that proves your relationship to the child such as a birth certificate or court order.
▪ The child must appear in person with both parents or legal guardians. If only one parent is present, written consent from the absent parent is required.
▪ Include the child's Social Security Number. If unavailable, a signed and dated statement must be submitted under penalty of perjury in accordance with U.S. law.
