‘Fortnite' Is Getting A New, Fast-Paced Battle Royale Mode This Week

A new Battle Royale mode is dropping into Fortnite very soon. Every six months or so, I get sucked back into Fortnite for a while. Usually, it's a cool new mechanic or cosmetic that ropes me back in. This time around, it was the big Death Star event that ended the last season. Anyway, I can see myself hanging around a bit longer than usual this time to check out a brand-new Battle Royale mode that's coming to Fortnite very soon. It's called Fortnite Blitz Royale. We don't know too many details about it yet other than what Epic Games has shared in a couple of tweets. It's said to be a faster-paced version of Battle Royale that's available on all platforms with support for cross-play. However, it has a "a rogue-like design specifically crafted for mobile play," according to Epic. That's pretty interesting, even though Fortnite's Battle Royale variants are already effectively roguelike modes. Other than your cosmetics, you start each game afresh and have to loot weapons and items. I'm curious whether there'll be ongoing gameplay progression in this mode (which would make it more of a roguelite, to be more precise). One other intriguing thing here is that Epic suggests that it will only take five minutes to play a game of Fortnite Blitz Royale, rather than the 20-25 minutes for a regular BR match. According to Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey, Blitz Royale matches will have 32 players instead of up to 100. It's likely that matches will take place in a smaller area too. We won't have to wait long to find out exactly what Fortnite Blitz Royale is all about. It's set to go live on June 18, as part of an update that will include a bunch of new features for Fortnite Ballistic, a fresh game mode for Lego Fortnite and the latest Fornite Festival season. I'm definitely curious to play Fortnite Blitz Royale. I've also been meaning to play some Fortnite with mouse controls on my Switch 2, so I'll try that soon and report back. 🫡 Follow my blog for coverage of video games (such as Fortnite) and word games. Fortnite's ‘Star Wars: Galactic Battle' Season Is Almost Over Already

Fortnite It seems like it just started yesterday, but Fortnite's entirely Star Wars-themed season, Galactic Battle, is already more than halfway over, and there are just over two weeks left it in from here. This is not a change or anything, and it was stated from the start, but I think most players probably don't have any idea this is the case. The Galactic Battle season started on May 2 and will end on June 7, running for just five weeks. This includes a number of in-game stages the game has been working through: I don't know if this ends with the Death Star blowing up some chunk of the map (all of it?) or if it will be blown up itself for the third time now. But again, the end is coming shortly, way, way faster than most seasons. This is the third shortest season in Fortnite history, if you want to count the release of Fortnite OG as a season. A full on 'Chapter: Season' would be in season 5, here's the list: Fortnite In all, the average length of a Fortnite season is about 85 days, and you can see how Galactic Battle is certainly one of the lowest on this list considering the contest of OG and Remix and the fact that so many others are in Chapter 1 before Fortnite had fully figured out this seasonal concept. Many, if not most, seem to hate this season for a number of reasons, and so far the highlight has been players talking to an AI Vader on the map that says funny things. Players are not exactly having a wild time battle royale-ing here, in other words. We don't know what the next season is about yet, but hopefully it's better, and if it's better, hopefully it's longer. And hopefully we're done with these massive pure marketing seasons for a while now as they're sort of a running joke at this point (Jar Jar? Come on). We'll see.
