At NYFW, a war of glamour
NEW YORK — Anna Sui may be the most glamorous woman in New York.
She is a legend: inventor of the grunge babydoll dress in the early 1990s, couturier to Mick Jagger, friend to Sofia Coppola, Debbie Harry and the late Marianne Faithfull. (Did we know Faithfull had a shell-studded cottage in Ireland?) Her collections' references are both all over the place and richly studied: In Saturday's show, there were screwball comedy heroines, Fortuny pleats and motifs, Poiret coats, the Ballets Russes, Peggy Guggenheim, flame stitch and leopard patterns, plus Barbara Hutton and her outrageous jewelry.
