US Education Department to determine funding EBR Schools gets for diversity program
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A spokesperson from EBR Schools said the U.S. Department of Education will decide whether to continue or halt federal funding aimed at addressing socioeconomic and racial diversity.
The Fostering Diverse Schools Grant, totaling $13.2 million over five years from 2023 to 2028, was awarded to three Baton Rouge schools during the Biden administration. Participating schools are Twin Oaks Elementary, Glasgow Middle and Broadmoor High.
EBR Schools said in a statement shared with Louisiana First News on Wednesday that the grant has not been canceled.
'We have been told that year three funding will be based on school performance data that we will turn in by September 30. At that point, the US Dept of Ed will review the progress and make a determination about how much, if any, funding will be received for year three, which runs October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026,' the school system said.
