Red Sox Trade of Jarren Duran Would 'Make Sense' According to Jim Bowden

Red Sox Trade of Jarren Duran Would 'Make Sense' According to Jim Bowden originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Diego Padres are interested in trading for Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. One year ago, the Padres also expressed interest in the Red Sox outfielder. The Duran trade rumors have been around for over a year, and now they are starting back up. Advertisement During a segment on Foul Territory, former MLB executive Jim Bowden talked about the Duran trade rumors and his view of their legitimacy. While he doesn't believe Duran will be traded to the Padres, he does see a move of Duran making sense. "Trading Duran makes sense," Bowden said. "It would not surprise me at all if Craig Breslow, GM of the Red Sox, plans to trade Duran, because otherwise, why haven't they made room for Anthony?" A large reason why Bowden believes a move of Duran makes sense is to make room for the number one overall prospect, Roman Anthony. Duran and Anthony are both outfielders, and to make room for Anthony, Bowden believes trading Duran is a solution. Advertisement Not only does he believe trading Duran makes sense, but he also sees Craig Breslow as capable of trading Duran to make room for Anthony. While Duran has ingrained himself into the Red Sox fandom, the Red Sox could look to move him in favor of Anthony. Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran (16) hits a double against the New York Mets during the fourth inning at Fenway Canha-Imagn Images Another factor at play is Ceddane Rafaela likely keeping his spot in center field. Despite his poor offensive numbers, the Red Sox "love Rafaela defensively," according to Bowden. The Red Sox also won't move off Gold Glove winner Wilyer Abreu, especially after his hot start offensively to the 2025 season. That leaves Rafaela and Duran as the two most likely spots for Anthony to take over when he's called up. Advertisement With the Red Sox's infatuation with Rafaela's defense and the rumors surrounding Duran picking up steam, all signs point towards a Duran trade. Bowden saying a trade makes sense, and that he wouldn't be surprised if Breslow moved Duran, are two strong indicators that MLB personnel also believe Duran is available. The Duran rumors have picked up drastically in the matter over a few hours on Monday, June 2nd. While no trade discussions have been reported, and nothing is close to being done, the Duran trade rumors are real and could materialize quickly. Pete Alonso Speaks Out: 'Nobody Can Put Themselves in Juan Soto's Shoes'

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Juan Soto's struggles are continuing for the New York Mets. He's reaching levels that are unheard of for him or any player of his talent. Entering Saturday, Soto's slash line was .229/.355/.400, which is exemplified by just four hits in his last 31 at-bats. It becomes more evident each day that Soto's struggles are due to the pressure building up. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 30: Juan Soto #22 of the New York Mets hits a double and drives in a run against the Colorado Rockies in the third inning against the Colorado Rockies during their game at Citi Field on May 30, 2025 in New York City. MoreThe Mets know they're going to need Soto when the games matter the most, and slugger Pete Alonso was quick to come to the $765 million superstar's defense on "Foul Territory." "I don't think anyone could ever put themselves in his shoes." Pete Alonso defends Juan Soto, who he says has been present, consistent, and level-headed. — Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) May 30, 2025 "I don't think anyone could ever put themselves in his shoes because he's got the largest contract in all of sports," said Alonso. "He's kind of like on an island in that aspect, but for him, he's all about winning. And that's the most important thing." The Mets were 6-4 in their last 10 games entering Saturday, so the team has been finding ways to win more often than not even with Soto's lack of success. Soto's pressure would only be worse if the Mets were falling apart the way the Orioles have this season. Alonso recognizes the work Soto is putting in to turn things around. "Even though he's not necessarily having the type of season he wants to have and he knows he's capable of, he's been very present," Alonso told "Foul Territory." "You see it every single day. He's so consistent, so level-headed. That's what you want out of a superstar like that. He's the same whether he has a good day or a bad day." With the calendar flipping over very soon, Soto is hoping it's a month to forget and get back to the way he was hitting at the beginning of the season. Braves insider: Slow start to season won't stop Atlanta from adding ‘big names' at trade deadline

It's been an uphill climb for the Atlanta Braves this season. After starting 0-7, they are currently at .500 with a 24-24 record, but that won't stop them from adding at the trade deadline, according to a Braves insider. Heading into the season, they knew they would be without ace Spencer Strider (internal brace surgery recovery) and former MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. (torn ACL recovery), but the hits kept coming. Advertisement The Braves signed outfielder Jurickson Profar to a three-year, $42 million contract following an All-Star season with the San Diego Padres and expected him to fill Acuna's void until he returned. But after playing just four games, he was suspended 80 games after testing positive for a PED. He's eligible to return in late June but is prohibited from postseason play. They also potentially lost All-Star starter Reynaldo Lopez (right shoulder inflammation) and top reliever Joe Jimenez (left knee cartilage damage) for the season. Strider returned to the rotation on April 16, only to go back on the IL due to a right hamstring strain. He missed another month before being reinstated May 19. Despite their struggles, Braves reporter Grant McCauley for 92.9 The Game believes the franchise will be active at the trade deadline because they weren't able to accomplish their offseason goals. Advertisement 'In no version of the script would I say, 'Well, the Braves looked at their pitching staff and thought they didn't need anything,'' McCauley told the 'Foul Territory' podcast. 'I think they would've liked to have gotten another high-leverage reliever, which was only made worse when Joe Jimenez could be out for the year. And I think they would've liked to have added somebody to fortify the rotation and really give them that standout group. I think those are still areas that they're going to go out and shop for.' McAuley added that the Braves won't be hampered by payroll, making them 'a very intriguing team out there lurking for some big names.' 'I think that they are poised to do something at the trade deadline and I've heard Alex Anthopoulos talk about it, the math for them, how they look at the luxury tax and when you get to the trade deadline, you're really only talking about having to pay for a third of that player's salary for the year,' said McAuley. MLB Insider Drops Update on Yankees, Other Contenders Chances of Landing Paul Skenes

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Pittsburgh Pirates have one of the best pitchers in baseball in Paul Skenes. He is in his second season and will not be a free agent until 2030. However, the team has not done much to convince him to want to stay with the team beyond that. The Pirates are 15-33 and have already fired Derek Shelton. They look like a team that is years out from being contenders, prompting the question of what they should do with Paul Skenes. During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," MLB insider Jeff Passan suggested the Pirates trade Skenes. "If they believe they have absolutely no chance of signing him, then they should trade him," said Passan. "And you can make an argument that they should trade him now." DETROIT, MICHIGAN - MAY 29: Paul Skenes #30 of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitches in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on May 29, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. DETROIT, MICHIGAN - MAY 29: Paul Skenes #30 of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitches in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on May 29, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan."What incentive does Paul Skenes have to extend with the Pirates? The Pirates have not shown willingness, from Bob Nutting all the way down, or the ability to bring in guys who are going to make this team better," Passan continued. The harsh reality is that the Pirates will likely lose Skenes to a big-market team as soon as he hits free agency. The only way to prevent that is by extending him, but he is not going to be enticed to sign an extension after the team has done practically nothing but lose since he debuted. Teams like the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies have shown they are willing to spend big on star players, and contend for a World Series year in and year out. Any one of those teams could put together a great package for Skenes and then try to extend him. However, the chances of them doing that right now could be low, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal. "I do not see it happening this year," Rosenthal said on "Foul Territory." "Paul Skenes is under control for four more years after this one. The Pirates have many problems, but I don't know that trading Paul Skenes is the way to do it." Trading Skenes this season is likely not even under consideration for the Pirates. However, as he gets closer to free agency, and if the front office in Pittsburgh sees some changes, trading him could become more realistic. "Can it happen in the future under a new GM if that is indeed what happens? Oh, yes, I can see that very much in the near future," said Rosenthal. Skenes was the National League Rookie of the Year last year and was the 2024 All-Star Game starter. Teams like the Yankees and Dodgers will be willing to write him a blank check if given the opportunity. More MLB: Former MLB Outfielder, World Series Champion, Dies Following Severe Brain Injury

Ken Rosenthal Reveals Padres Were Willing to Trade for Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani could've ended up on an NL West rival in 2022, and who knows whether the Japan native would've reached free agency that led to him heading to Chavez Ravine in 2023. When it became evident that the Los Angeles Angels would struggle to put a winning team around Ohtani and Mike Trout, other MLB teams began circling. Moreover, the San Diego Padres were willing to offer a top prospect for the two-way standout. Advertisement MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently revealed on Foul Territory what the Padres were willing to give up to land Ohtani in 2022. Could the Dodgers have won the World Series last year? Or perhaps the Padres trade Ohtani if he wasn't willing to sign an extension leading to up to his free agency. There's also the thought of whether Merrill would develop into the All-Star that he is now with the Angels. Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17) checks his bat in the fifth inning against the Los Angeles Angels at Dodger Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images '[The Angels] had every opportunity to trade Ohtani, and they didn't do that,' Rosenthal said. 'Jackson Merrill was at one point part of the talks between the Padres and Angels when they were discussing Ohtani. This was in '22. [The] Padres at that time couldn't get Ohtani, so they pivoted to [Juan] Soto. Advertisement 'Two and a half years of control for Soto, one and a half for Ohtani, but the packages likely would have been similar. This was Shohei Ohtani. Merrill was part of it. Whether he would have been part of the final deal, hard to say. We don't know. The mere fact that they could have made that deal for Ohtani, well, it just shows that [the Angels] missed on an opportunity.' Rosenthal's report raises an interesting what-if: if the Padres had convinced the Angels to trade Ohtani, would he be in San Diego right now instead of with the Dodgers? Would the Dodgers have still won the World Series last year? Maybe the Padres would've flipped Ohtani again if he wasn't open to signing an extension before hitting free agency. And there's also the question of whether Merrill would've developed into the All-Star he is today if he had landed with the Angels.
