Multiple crashes and fatalities reported on Merafong roads over past long weekend

Although there was only one fatal accident on Merafong's roads over Easter, various crashes occurred over the past long weekend. According to the Merafong City Local Municipality's Traffic Department there were six accidents in the Carletonville area and three in the Fochville area over the past weekend. Two of the Carletonville accidents involved pedestrians. Monday, April 28, saw three crashes before 10:00. One of these accidents claimed the life of an 11-year-old girl who was hit by a vehicle on the road between Carletonville and Welverdiend. The accident occurred at approximately 09:00, just after the pedestrian bridge on the way to Welverdiend. One of the other two early morning accidents took place closer to Welverdiend, when a bakkie overturned and ended up in the long grass and weeds on the left side of the road. The driver was taken to Fountain Private Hospital. The driver and passengers of a Volkswagen Polo were also taken to the hospital by bystanders after the car rolled on the road to Blybank less than an hour earlier. Unfortunately, several people also died in more serious accidents in the Carletonville area. A man died while four others, three men and a woman, were injured after the Toyota Avanza in which they were travelling rolled on the R501 close to Technicrete near the Blybank turn-off at approximately 23:45 on Sunday. The Avanza was travelling in the direction of Carletonville when the incident took place. The injured were taken to Carletonville Hospital, Fountain Private Hospital, and Krugersdorp Netcare Hospital. In another fatal accident, an unknown man was killed in a hit-and-run on Annan Road at approximately 04:30 on Sunday morning. CPI security guards saw the man lying in the road and called other authorities. Paramedics later declared him dead. By printing time, the identity of the man was still not known, and police were also still looking for the motorist who killed him. Anyone with information can contact Sergeant Sibusiso Lunga on 083 733 2405. Another man died in an accident near Rooipoort School on the R500 between Carletonville and the N14 at approximately 07:30 on Saturday. The driver, a 43-year-old resident of Khutsong South, passed away at the scene after he allegedly lost control of his maroon Volkswagen Polo Classic. The car ended up in a ditch on the side of the road. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
