Joplin plans night lane closures on HWY 249 for sewer work
JOPLIN, Mo. — As part of the Baker's Branch East Wastewater Extension Project, the city of Joplin is notifying citizens of some upcoming nighttime lane closures on Highway 249.
The sewer improvement will extend service from Duquesne Road at Zora Avenue to the highway interchanges at Zora Street and Newman Road, the city said. It's all part of a broader effort to provide Duenweg with reliable sewer service.
Because the planned sewer line extension will be done using a trenchless boring method beneath the highway, contractors will conduct geophysical work to survey the site first. That will take place during the nights of Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15. This will create lane closures for both northbound and southbound traffic.
Signage and flashing arrows will alert drivers approaching the closure. Those closures will last from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Drivers in the area are advised to use caution during work hours.
