Strong to severe storms possible for Pikes Peak Region Saturday
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — It is likely that some in the Pikes Peak Region and the Palmer Divide could see strong to severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening on Saturday, May 24. For a strong to severe thunderstorm to occur, the following parameters in the atmosphere need to be in place: moisture, instability, lift, and wind shear. As of Saturday morning, the Fox21 Storm team says all four are in place for the day. As of 6 a.m. Saturday morning, forecast models indicate that storms could start anywhere from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., and are most likely to occur around the Palmer Divide region and anywhere in northern El Paso County. These storms are capable of producing anywhere from pea to ping-pong-ball-sized hail, strong winds up to 60 mph, and a small chance of an isolated tornado. The following are recommendations for today if you live in the Pikes Peak Region: if you can park your car under a structure, stay weather aware and if you are under a strong to severe storm take shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed. You can also download the Fox21 Storm Team app today. If a severe storm comes to your area, the Fox21 Storm Team will send a notification to your phone. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Mexican nationals found with 180,000 rounds of ammo
FREEMONT, Colo. (KSNW) – Federal charges have been filed against two men from Mexico who were found with 180,000 rounds of ammunition. Our sister station, Fox 21 in Colorado Springs, reports that Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis, 41, and Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira, 24, have been indicted in federal court on charges of unlawful possession of ammunition by alien admitted under a nonimmigrant visa. The men were arrested on March 26 following a traffic stop in Canon City, located about 30 miles southwest of Colorado Springs. Oklahoma City to mark 30 years since the bombing that killed 168 people and shook America The U.S. Attorney's Office for Colorado says after the men consented to a search of the van they were driving, Detectives found approximately 150 boxes of .308 ammunition, and approximately 30 boxes of 7.62 ammunition, each holding 1,000 rounds. .308 and 7.62mm ammo can be used in rifles. Rifles that take .308 ammunition can fire 7.62mm rounds as well, but rifles that shoot 7.62mm rounds can only fire that size of round. While both rounds are very similar in size, the .308 has slightly thinner brass than the 7.62mm and is packed under higher pressure. While both rounds can be used for hunting, they are also used for police and military rifles and machine guns. The case is being investigated by the Denver Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations and the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Denver Field Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section of the United States Attorney's Office is prosecuting the case. The arrests are part of the Department of Justice's Operation: Take Back America.
