‘Accused' Season 3 Still in Limbo, Fox Says It's Open to More Episodes

Just because Fox doesn't have a plan to renew Howard Gordon's 'Accused' at the moment, that doesn't mean that won't change in the future. The network addressed the renewal hopes of 'Accused' as well as other on-the-bubble shows 'The Cleaning Lady,' 'Alert: Missing Persons Unit' and 'The Great North' during a conference call with press ahead of its 2025 advertiser upfront presentation. 'As you know, ['Accused'] is anthological, which means it doesn't have the same timetable for renewals as shows that have locked cast. So right now, we're talking with Howard,' Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network for Fox Entertainment, said. 'If there's an opportunity down the line to event-ize a return that can really work for us and Howard, we'd love to do it. Right now, there's no plan, but there could be down the line.' The anthology drama first premiered in 2023 and aired its second season on 2024. Each episode of 'Accused' follows a completely different court case with an entirely different cast as it explores one of the most stressful moments in the lives of ordinary people. Thorn also provided an update on 'The Cleaning Lady,' which is currently airing its fourth season, as well as 'Alert: Missing Persons Unit' and 'The Great North.' The police procedural from John Eisendrath and Jamie Foxx is currently airing its third season, and the animated comedy from Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux and Minty Lewis is airing its fifth season. 'We love the teams and those shows, and I think there'll be more to come after they finish their current seasons. As you know, we order series all year round. The upfront for us is one cycle of ordering, and there will definitely be more [ordering] sometime, probably later this summer,' Thorn said. Rescue HI-Surf Cancellation Explained: ‘We Went All-In,' Says Fox Exec, But It ‘Didn't Catch On Like We Had Hoped'

It was still waters on the viewership front, and not the expensive of filming on location in Hawai'i, that caused Rescue HI-Surf to wipeout after just one season. Season 1 of Rescue HI-Surf averaged 2.8 million total viewers (with delayed playback), ranking No. 4 out of the seven dramas Fox aired this TV season (besting Accused, Alert: MPU and The Cleaning Lady). The island drama delivered 65% audience retention out of lead-in Lone Star, and was this season's 10th-most watched new broadcast drama (out of 12). 'Unfortunately, HI-Surf just didn't catch on like we had hoped,' he explained. Added Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade, 'It certainly wasn't the locale or the budget' that factored into HI-Surf's one-and-done fate. 'It just didn't quite grab the audience.' 'We love our partnership with John Wells and Warner Brothers [Television], and hope to do more with John and are doing more with Warner Brothers,' Thorn made clear, 'but [Rescue HI-Surf] just didn't resonate with our audience the way we needed to be able to return it.' 'The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality, and humor, and with Best Medicine coming to Fox, that eccentricity gets a small-town America spin, complete with idyllic charm and absurdity,' Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn said in a statement. 'Liz, Mark, Philippa, Ben, and Rodney have done a terrific job adapting this signature character for the Fox audience, especially in casting the terrifically talented Josh Charles as our lead.' Added Silverman, 'The entire Propagate team is thrilled to be working with Fox Entertainment on this extraordinary adaptation by Liz Tuccillo of the global hit Doc Martin. Josh Charles to Star in Fox Medical Comedy Based on British Hit ‘Doc Martin'

Josh Charles will star in Fox's latest medical series 'Best Medicine,' an adaptation of the British hit series 'Doc Martin.' The medical comedy, which will premiere during the 2025-26 TV season, follows the success of the network's medical drama 'Doc' — which was also adapted from a hit Italian series. 'The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality, and humor, and with 'Best Medicine' coming to Fox, that eccentricity gets a smalltown America spin, complete with idyllic charm and absurdity,' President of Fox Television Network Michael Thorn said. 'Best Medicine' will center around Martin Best (Charles), a talented surgeon who abruptly leaves his career behind in Boston and moves to a quaint East Coast fishing village to become a general practitioner. Martin's blunt, big-city bedside manner does not quite mesh with the locals in the small town. In his attempts to distance himself from the residents of the town, he somehow becomes intertwined in the 'feuds and fantasies' of the villagers. 'The Office' producer Ben Silverman, 'Stick''s Rodney Ferrell and Liz Tuccillo of 'Sex and the City' will all executive produce the series for Fox Entertainment. Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite from 'Doc Martin' will also executive produce the comedy series and support its adaptation. The British medical comedy was originally produced by Buffalo Pictures in association with Homerun Film Productions, and will be brought to American audiences by Propagate Content. 'The entire Propagate team is thrilled to be working with Fox Entertainment on this extraordinary adaptation by Liz Tuccillo of the global hit 'Doc Martin,'' Silverman said. 'Josh Charles is the perfect lead for this brilliantly character-driven comedic procedural. 'Best Medicine' is a world we'll all want to be part of.' Charles is best known for his performances as Will Garner in 'The Good Wife,' which earned him two Emmy Award nominations. The actor has also appeared in 'The Handmaid's Tale,' 'The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' and 'Dead Poets Society.' The one-hour comedy series is set to premiere on Fox in the 2025-2026 season. 'The Simpsons,' 'Family Guy' renewed for four seasons at Fox

LOS ANGELES, April 2 (Reuters) - Animated television sitcoms "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," and "Bob's Burgers" have been renewed for four more seasons on Fox, Fox Entertainment said on Wednesday. "American Dad" will return to Fox, where it debuted in 2005, also scoring a four-season renewal. It has been showing on TBS since 2014. The contract extends the status of "The Simpsons" as the longest-running scripted primetime series in television history with its 37th through 40th seasons. "This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic comedies, as well as the enduring, prolific relationship we continue to enjoy with our friends at 20th Television Animation," said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network, referring to its production company behind the shows. Disney+ (DIS.N), opens new tab and Hulu will remain the exclusive global streaming platforms for all four of the animated series.
