Ex-Preston boss McAvoy joins Carlisle coaching team
Former Preston North End head coach Frankie McAvoy has been named as new first-team coach at Carlisle United as part of Mark Hughes' backroom Scot, 51, will take up the role vacated by Glyn Hodges, who has left the club due to family commitments after arriving in February to work alongside was in charge of Preston in the Championship in 2021 and has since worked at Hearts in the Scottish Premiership and AFC Fylde in the National the backroom team is Gavin Skelton, who returns to the club as a first-team coach having left the same role at Hartlepool United.
Hodges has been a long-time assistant to Hughes, having worked with him at six previous clubs as well as with the Wales national with Hodges leaving, McAvoy has come in while Skelton, 44, is back at his hometown club having had spells there as a player, assistant manager and caretaker is a new set-up for Hughes, but he says they have the qualities to form a successful coaching team."Both guys have National League experience which was a little bit of the thinking behind the appointments, but it was more so the qualities they both have," the Welshman told the club's website, external."I met them both and I was impressed with them as people and as coaches in terms of how they came across."
