Tesco ramps up Aldi Price Match with over 80 customer favourites as low as 64p

The money-saving scheme has been expanded to now include everything from weekly groceries to baby essentials. Tesco has ramped up its price war with Aldi this week. By adding of new items to its price match scheme, it is helping customers to save money on their weekly shop. The UK's largest supermarket giant's initiative that matches prices to its budget German rival has now been expanded with more than 80 customer favourites, with prices as low as 64p. ‌ From groceries to household and baby essentials, the expansion will allow shoppers to find even lower prices across a selection of products that are often added to their baskets time and time again. ‌ It now means that the price match campaign will include a selection of Tesco's own-branded staples for the fridge, freezer and cupboards, alongside items from its exclusive Fred & Flo baby range that is popular with parents. Just a few grocery examples include a tub of houmous (200g) for 99p, an iceberg lettuce (200g) for 64p, two steak slices (300g) for £1.75 and also a bag of tortilla chips (200g) for £3.56. As for little ones, parents will now be able to bag the Fred & Flo Baby Shampoo (500ml) for just 82p and the Fred & Flo Easy Fit Pants Size 4 (42 pack) for £3.56. With costs still remaining a concern for many households, there's no denying the appeal of Aldi in recent years, with the budget discounter becoming so popular it overtook Morrisons to become the fourth largest UK supermarket in 2022. In response, many supermarkets began offering price match schemes in a bid to win back customers, with Tesco's own initiative launching in 2020, becoming the first supermarket to directly rival the budget chain. ‌ Items included in the scheme are easily identifiable for shoppers who are looking to save pennies, as they are marked with distinctive red signage with the words 'Aldi Price Match.' It comes after the news that Tesco had axed around 145 items from its price-match scheme earlier this year, with the supermarket attributing the drop to a change in its methodology. ‌ The firm confirmed that products that are included now also have to be identified within a large number of Aldi stores across the country, meaning it can focus on the key items shoppers are most likely to buy. Tesco Group Chief Commercial Officer Ashwin Prasad said: "We are absolutely committed to providing great value for Tesco customers and we have carefully chosen more than 80 additional products to add to our Aldi Price match scheme. "We have added many customer favourites including our Tesco own-brand houmous pots and baby plum tomatoes, giving customers the assurance that they are getting great prices on some of our most popular products." Tesco rivals Aldi by slashing prices of 80 most popular supermarket items

Tesco is making a major change in its stores and online, by slashing the price of its most popular items. The retailer is adding 80 products to its popular Aldi Price Match scheme, which has been running for the last five years. More than 500 items, including big name brands, are price matched as part of this, but the new reductions will see even more supermarket favourites available at 'great value'. As such, shoppers will now be able to get iceberg lettuce, houmous, baby plum tomatoes, ice creams, steak, red onions and more at prices that rival those available in the UK's cheapest supermarket. In case you missed it, Aldi was recently crowned the cheapest in the UK for the month of May by the consumer experts at Which?, who found a shop of 82 items cost £135.48 on average there. At Tesco, the same shop was £150.26 with a Clubcard and £152.35 without one. Speaking about the price match change at Tesco, group chief commercial officer, Ashwin Prasad said: 'We are absolutely committed to providing great value for Tesco customers and we have carefully chosen more than 80 additional products to add to our Aldi Price match scheme.
