Villagers from Gilcrux near Aspatria prepared some interesting designs to mark May 8 with scarecrows based on VE and Second World War themed characters including a Freedom Dove, Firefighters, Land Girls and Prime Minister Winston Churchill. A villager said: "We have had a number of exciting heritage scarecrow festivals over the years. In 2025 we wanted to do something special and to celebrate 80VE anniversary."
