Freeport man charged with unlawful possession after laser sight incident
FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Police apprehended a Freeport man who allegedly drove past a home Saturday night, shining a laser from a pistol sight at the house. According to the Freeport Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:02 p.m. Authorities were notified that the suspect vehicle was a dark colored Buick SUV, and stopped the vehicle near Stephenson Street and Green Avenue. Police identified the front seat passenger as Jonah Durns, 25, a felon with multiple past convictions for weapons and drug possession. A loaded semi-automatic pistol equipped with a laser sight and an extended ammunition magazine were found in the front seat passenger area, police said. Durns was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification card. Freeport police recover 9mm handgun after suspect hides in Buick
FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Police in Freeport arrested a man they say opened fire on a vehicle after engaging in a verbal argument with the occupant. According to the Freeport Police Department, Demetrius Henry, 41, was found hiding in the back seat of a Buick that was parked in the 1200 block of S. Carroll after officers responded to an alert from the city's Sound Thinking gunshot detection system. Investigators said Henry, who lives in University Park, and the occupant of a white SUV were engaged in a 'verbal altercation' both before and after the shot was fired. A 9mm handgun was found in the back seat of the Buick during a search of the vehicle. Henry has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, reckless discharge of a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Motorcyclist loses control, fatally struck by BMW in Freeport crash
FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — A 57-year-old motorcyclist has died after he lost control and was struck by a BMW in a Freeport crash Wednesday afternoon. According to the Freeport Police Department, a 57-year-old man from Freeport was driving south on West Avenue around 4:52 p.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle and was hit by a red BMW driven by a 39-year-old man from Davis. The victim was taken to FHN Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries. Police said the crash is still under investigation. No charges have been announced. Rockford man, wanted for robbery, leads police chase in Freeport
FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rockford man wanted for robbery led police on a chase through Freeport on Wednesday afternoon, according to law enforcement. The Freeport Police Department reported that officers attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Alvin Jones, 32, who was wanted on a robbery warrant. Around 4:30 p.m., officers tried to pull Jones over at Waddell Avenue and Beach Street, but he fled, leading police on a chase that eventually ended in the area of Stephenson Street and Brad Mar Drive. There, Jones got out and ran and was apprehended after a foot pursuit, police said. Authorities said MDMA (Ecstasy) pills were found on Jones' person during his arrest. Freeport police seize AK-47 and marijuana in shooting investigation
FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Police in Freeport recovered an AK-47 rifle and a felony amount of cannabis as part of an investigation into a shooting last week. According to the Freeport Police Department, on Tuesday, March 25th, at 2:04 a.m., shots were fired in the area of Ringold Street and Winnebago Avenue. Investigators said no one was injured in the shooting, but evidence pointed to the identification of a suspect: Lorenzo Flores, 25. Authorities said Flores' vehicle was used in the crime. On Friday, March 28th, at 3:06 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on Flores and took him into custody. A subsequent search of his home, in the 600 block of N. Winnebago, yielded the firearm and drugs. Flores has been charged with Reckless Discharge of a Fireram, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis.
