Lubbock-area school districts to offer free summer meals for Lubbock, Wolfforth children
At least two local school districts will be offering their respective free summer meal programs to help combat child hunger in Lubbock and Wolfforth. Both Lubbock and Frenship Independent School Districts are bringing back their summer lunch programs, which are free for children 18 and younger who don't have to be students at the school district. Lubbock ISD is partnering with the South Plains Food Bank and Lubbock National Bank to provide free summer meals on Mondays through Thursdays from May 27 through July 31. According to the district, no registration or identification is required, and children do not need to be Lubbock ISD students to participate. The following locations will serve breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Coronado High School - Door #26 Monterey High School - Door #17 Estacado High School - Door #23 Lubbock High School - Door #8 Bayless Elementary School - Door #1 McWhorter Elementary School - Door #1 Things to do this summer: Lubbock Lake Landmark offers archaeological digs, look into where city started The following places will offer grab-and-go meals at the following places and times: Centennial Elementary School — 10:30 - 10:45 a.m. Hardwick Elementary School — 11:00 - 11:15 a.m. Harwell Elementary School — 11:45 - noon. Hodges Elementary School — 11:15 - 11:30 a.m. Parsons Elementary School — 10:15 - 10:30 a.m. Roberts Elementary School — 10:45 - 11:00 a.m. Whiteside Elementary School — 11:30 - 11:45 a.m. Dunbar College Preparatory Academy — 11:00 - 11:15 a.m. Ervin Elementary School — 11:20 - 11:35 a.m. . Children can receive a free lunch each Monday through Friday and do not have to be a Frenship student to receive the meal. How well is your school district teaching kids? State releases assessments
It's that time again when the state's governing education agency gives its report card to local school districts. The Texas Education Agency publishes what is called the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), an extensive report that breaks down schools and their districts on student performance and district programs. Here are the highlights from this year's TAPR for Lubbock ISD, Lubbock-Cooper ISD and Frenship ISD district TAPRs. Total students: 7,836. Teacher-to-student ratio: 1 to 12.3. Special Education Status: Meets requirements. District 2022-23 graduation rate: 100% (511 graduates). District dropout rate (9-12th grade): 0.3% (down 0.1% from 2022). Others are reading: Keith Bryant announces retirement as Lubbock-Cooper superintendent at end of school year Percentage of students passing the math EOC/STAAR tests (all grade levels): Approaches grade level or above: 83% (down 3% from 2023).
