52-year-old man identified by Fresno coroner who died in heavily engulfed house fire

The Fresno County Coroner's Office identified the man who died in a fire at a home in Fresno. He is Kenneth Edie, 52, of Fresno. Crews from the Fresno Fire Department responded to the fire in the 2000 block of Cornelia Avenue, between McKinley and Clinton avenues. When crews arrived, they found an outbuilding behind a home that was heavily engulfed, as well as vehicles and other buildings around it, Fresno Fire said. Fire officials said crews were able to extinguish the fire, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby neighborhoods. Fire officials said a neighbor told them someone 'was possibly living in a trailer that was inside of a shop in the back where the fire actually started.' Crews put water inside the structure and found Edie, who was pronounced dead. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Man found dead Sunday in fire at Fresno home, investigation underway

An investigation is underway Sunday afternoon after a two-alarm fire claimed the life of a man at a home in Fresno. Crews from the Fresno Fire Department responded to the first alarm at noon in the 2000 block of Cornelia Avenue, between McKinley and Clinton avenues. When crews arrived, they found an outbuilding behind a home that was heavily engulfed, as well as vehicles and other buildings around it, Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Tim Fulmer said. Fulmer said crews were able to extinguish the fire, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby neighborhoods. Fulmer said a neighbor told them someone 'was possibly living in a trailer that was inside of a shop in the back where the fire actually started.' Crews put water inside the structure and found a man who was pronounced dead. 'The fire was much more extended,' Fulmer said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours, Fulmer said.

Heavy smoke disrupts traffic as fire jumped Fresno highway, authorities say

For a second time in several days, heavy smoke has caused problems on a Fresno highway on Saturday afternoon. The Fresno Fire Department responded to a highway fire, located at the 168 and the 180 transition when the fire jumped the freeway and caused heavy smoke. The fire was reported just before 3:30 p.m. Motorists are driving through the heavy smoke, but the California Highway Patrol are positioning to control the traffic. On Wednesday, crews battled multiple highway fires Wednesday afternoon along Highway 41. The five grass fires were along southbound 41 between Shaw and Ashlan avenues.

Fire at Macy's in Fresno's Fashion Fair mall prompt evacuation, battalion chief says

A fire was allegedly lit Saturday evening in the Macy's men's bathroom at Fashion Fair in Fresno. The Fresno Fire Department responded to the fire at 6:11 p.m. Crews went into the bathroom and were met with heavy black smoke coming out in the basement floor at Macy's, Battalion Chief Brian Downs said. Crews were able to evacuate Macy's and contained the fire to just the bathroom. Downs said there were some toilet paper dispensers that have been lit on fire and extinguished in one of the stalls. 'We've just been working on trying to eliminate the smoke out of the building,' Downs said. 'We were able to isolate the fire to the bathroom.' Crews opened doors and used fans to get the smoke out of Macy's. Macy's was evacuated for 30 minutes before employees and customers were allowed to go back in. Downs said none of the fire sprinklers were activated, but the fire alarm was. 'Our investigator right now is investigating to find out what the cause is and there's also some surveillance footage around the area that he'll be reviewing to see what information we can about how or who started the fire. 'This is just a good reminder that when the fire alarm goes off, even though many times it's not an emergency, it always has the potential and we're glad that people evacuated.' He said he doesn't remember any recent fire events at the Fashion Fair. Fire crews have responded to alarm activation due to the size and age of Fashion Fair.
