Paris Slams NATO, Calls For Frexit: Macron Faces Massive Protest Over War Policies

/ Jun 30, 2025, 01:43PM IST Hundreds gathered in Paris to protest NATO, EU militarization, and France's support for Ukraine, in a demonstration led by right-wing politician Florian Philippot. The rally condemned French President Emmanuel Macron's military policies and called for France to exit both NATO and the European Union. Protesters held signs reading 'Frexit is another name for peace' and chanted against sending aid or troops to Ukraine. Philippot also praised Russian President Vladimir Putin's call for renewed peace talks, criticizing the West's aggressive stance as dangerous and unnecessary. The demonstration reflects rising discontent in France over foreign entanglements and military spending.#ParisProtest #FranceNews #Frexit #NoToNATO #StopTheWar #PeaceNotWar #NATOWatch #UkraineConflict #EndMilitarization #FranceForPeace #MacronProtests #NATOCriticism

Paris protest demands end to French military aid for Ukraine (VIDEOS)

A demonstration in Paris on Sunday held by right-wing politician Florian Philippot's Eurosceptic party denounced NATO, the militarization of Europe, and the French government's military support for Ukraine. During its summit this past week, NATO agreed to significantly ramp up military spending, citing the perceived 'threat' from Russia. Last month, the EU similarly approved a €150 billion ($171 billion) borrowing mechanism to fund its military buildup. Russia has dismissed notions that it harbors hostile intentions toward Europe. Sunday's rally in the French capital had the stated objective of 'defending peace and a Free France,' according to the party's posts on X. The protesters also slammed French President Emmanuel Macron over what they view as his increasingly confrontational policies in Europe. « On lâche rien ! » 🇫🇷Cet après-midi dans les rues de Paris à l'appel des Patriotes !Vidéo ! ⤵️ Addressing the rally, Philippot proclaimed that 'we have no place in NATO, this criminal organization that costs us dearly and should have disappeared long ago!' Philippot, a former member of the European Parliament, also said that 'France must leave the EU and NATO as quickly as possible through Frexit!' Among the slogans emblazoned on the placards and chanted by the demonstrators were 'Frexit is another name for Peace' and 'The patriots for peace.' They also denounced the French government's support for Kiev, insisting that they 'don't want to die for Ukraine.' « #Macron démission ! » hurle la foule cet après-midi dans les rues de Paris à l'appel des Patriotes !Formidable ! 🇫🇷Oui Macron dehors !Parlementaires jouez enfin votre rôle d'opposition ! 'Peace means refusing to send a single euro, a single weapon, and obviously a single French soldier to #Ukraine!' Philippot declared on X on the eve of the event. Several hundred people are estimated to have taken part in the event, which was held near the Palais-Royal and Louvre museum. Je manif pour la Paix! A similar rally took place in Paris in late March in response to a €2 billion military aid package for Ukraine approved by Macron. Earlier that month, a separate demonstration took place in the French capital after Macron suggested deploying France's nuclear weapons to other European allied states. Speaking to RIA Novosti in May, Philippot praised Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal to re-start peace talks with Ukraine without preconditions. He argued that it would be impossible to resolve the Ukraine conflict unless the fundamental issues in relations between Kiev and Moscow were addressed. Philippot also stated that Moscow's offer 'strikes a blow' to all the 'warmongers' in the EU, including Macron.

Le Pen will be made a martyr

This may well be Marine Le Pen's Donald Trump moment. The US president convinced voters he was a victim of 'lawfare', a witch hunt waged by an elite class that was determined to block him from power. A court on Monday found Ms Le Pen guilty of embezzling EU funds and banned her from French politics for five years. The National Rally leader is now banned from running the next race for the Elysee but her shadow will stretch long over the two years leading up to the 2027 vote. Ms Le Pen has brought the party founded by her father Jean-Marie Le Pen – a racist and a Holocaust denier – closer to power and mainstream respectability than it has ever been. National Rally is the single largest party in the fragmented French parliament. Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, is on his second minority government since July. A vengeful National Rally could easily bring it down after a verdict which will make France even more impossible to govern. Ms Le Pen has contested the last three presidential elections, improving her performance each time and reaching the second round run-off the last two times. Mr Macron cannot contest the 2027 election and there is no apparent heir to the current president within his own Renaissance party. The 2027 election was widely thought to be the year of Ms Le Pen's breakthrough and, as her furious storming out of the court showed, she knows it. Ms Le Pen will, as Mr Trump would put it, 'fight, fight, fight'. Rodolphe Bosselut, her lawyer, has confirmed that she will appeal against the conviction in time to run for the Elysee in 2027. She has already scheduled a television interview for this evening. This is a huge blow to Ms Le Pen and her party, which must now decide if Jordan Bardella, her 29-year-old deputy, can fill her shoes. However Europe's nationalist Right will waste no time in transforming her into their Joan of Arc. There's no question that Le Pen as president, who wanted a Frexit referendum in 2017 and a major rollback in Brussels powers now, would have been a massive challenge for the EU. Ms Le Pen's European allies will paint her as a martyr sacrificed on the orders of globalist elites determined to prevent her becoming the leader of one the EU's most influential countries. Even before the verdict was read out in full, Hungary's Viktor Orban, a keen admirer of Mr Trump, declared: 'Je suis Marine!' on social media. Geert Wilders, a far-Right politician in the Netherlands and and ally of Ms Le Pen's allies in the Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament, professed himself 'shocked' by the 'incredibly tough' verdict. 'I support and believe in her for the full 100 per cent and I trust she will win the appeal and become President of France,' the 'Dutch Trump' said on X. They were not the only ones to try and make political capital from the verdict. The Kremlin branded it a 'violation of democratic norms', while somehow managing to keep a straight face. Relations between Ms Le Pen and Mr Trump are not straightforward, but the White House could still take up her cause as it takes MAGA global. The Trump administration has already piled pressure on Romania to allow a pro-Russian, far-Right candidate to run in its presidential election. It recently endorsed Conor McGregor, the UFC fighter, to become president of Ireland. Elon Musk openly supports Tommy Robinson in Britain, while JD Vance claims free speech is in retreat in Europe. Both men strongly criticised the 'firewall' keeping the far-Right AfD from government in Germany as 'anti-democratic'. Mr Trump and his allies may make Ms Le Pen a totem in the culture war they are increasingly fighting abroad, as well as at home. She dreamt of being president of France, but Marine Le Pen may have to settle for being a figurehead in the battle of ideas fought in the internet's echo chambers.
