Event in Grand Rapids aims to celebrate Black history, uplift businesses
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A celebration of Black history is happening in Grand Rapids this weekend.
The nonprofit organization A Glimpse of Africa is showcasing artists' talent, cultural foods and products and services at the Grand Rapids Center for Community Transformation, located at 1530 Madison Ave. SE near Cottage Grove Street SE.
The organization works year-round to celebrate African cultures and educate the community. It also aims to lift up immigrants and refugees and connect them with resources.
On Friday night, guest panelists will empower Black businesses by sharing resources, offering support services and guiding vendors through financial decisions. Friday's event runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
'There will be opportunities to network,' CEO Fridah Kanini said. 'People can connect to business experts.'
An even bigger celebration is planned for Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It will include a panel discussion titled 'Bridging the Gap Between Diverse Black Communities.'
