WATCH — Winnipeg is the Slurpee capital of the world. See what kids think

Slurpee is a 7-Eleven brand, but there are all kinds of slushy drinks to try Before a recent visit to Winnipeg, Manitoba, our CBC Kids News journalists learned the city is known as the Slurpee capital of the world — despite being cold for much of the year. CBC Kids News reached out to the company that sells the icy treats, 7-Eleven. Company reps confirmed that the Canadian city has held the title for more than 20 years. According to the 7-Eleven website, more Slurpees are consumed in Winnipeg than anywhere else in the world. CBC Kids News asked 7-Eleven to back up that claim with stats, but they wouldn't share their data with us. Some Canadian cities don't have 7-Eleven locations. Since Slurpee is a 7-Eleven brand, kids in some places, like Montreal, Quebec, or Halifax, Nova Scotia, wouldn't be able to buy them anyway. As warmer temperatures approach, we thought it would be fun to talk about sweet, icy drinks that keep you cool. Keep reading to learn about some slushy alternatives from around the world that you might want to try. But first, click play to hear what kids and teens in Winnipeg had to say about their city's Slurpee love!⬇️⬇️⬇️ Other slushy drinks to try If you're already thinking about icy treats to enjoy this summer, you have lots of options. Have you tried any of these from other parts of the world? Granita: Love fresh summer treats? Granitas may be for you. This refreshing dessert can be traced back to Italy. Granitas are more coarse than typical slushies and can be eaten with a spoon or a straw. Popular flavours include lemon pistachio and peach. Boba slush: A treat within a treat. The boba slush comes in tasty flavours like lychee and taro, and often has tapioca at the bottom. But you can also get it with other mix-ins, like grass jelly, pudding, and hot brown sugar. Sorry to burst your boba: Bubble tea supplies running low in Canada Modern boba was created in Taiwan during the 1980s. Since then, it's become an international sensation. Other slushy-makers All these frosty drinks got us wondering: if Winnipeg is the Slurpee capital, how many slushies do other cities slurp? We tried our best to find out. CBC Kids News reached out to some other slushy-makers — Slush Puppie, Icee and Circle K, home of the Froster — and even Statistics Canada, but they didn't get back to us in time for the publishing of this article.
