Much debate is given to the best time of year to visit Disney, and as someone who grew up in Florida, I can tell you: 10 months out of the year, it will be hot. The other two, it will be absolutely packed. That is the way of the world. But, if you can handle the heat (the high is 92, on average, in July and August), the summer is an awesome time to visit Disney World—particularly this summer, as the parks and resorts roll out all kinds of discounts and promotions. Many of the promotions are staggered, but you can take advantage of multiple offers if you plan your trip between late May and September. And, after getting to experience a handful during a press preview last week, here are the deals worth taking advantage of, ASAP. I've Been to Disney World Over a Dozen Times, Here Are 3 Things I Never Miss original photo: candace davison From May 27 through September 20, you can save 50 percent on kids' tickets to Walt Disney World for stays of three days or longer. This is not a drill. Disney is also offering a three-day, three-park ticket starting at $267—roughly $89 a day—that's valid at Hollywood Studios, EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. The one thing to note here is that while the kids' discounted tickets can be used at any park (Magic Kingdom included), they cannot be combined with other admissions discounts, so you'd have to choose between deals here, and it requires purchasing a full-price adult ticket. (Full details here.) original photo: candace davison This is honestly the best reason to stay at a Disney resort—and the most underrated perk Walt Disney World offers. Right now, Typhoon Lagoon is open, but its sister water park, Blizzard Beach, reopens on May 21, so you'll have your choice of either destination all summer long. A one-day ticket to either water park costs $74, but if you stay overnight at a Disney Resort between now and the end of the year, everyone registered for that room will get free admission on check-in day. It's only available on your check-in day and cannot be transferred, so it's worth planning your travel accordingly. For a family of four, that's $296—roughly the cost of a night's stay itself. (Actually, when I searched for rates at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort for early August, prices on Viator were as low as $217 a night.) Both water parks are packed with things to do, from floating in a lazy river to shockingly fast water slides and over-the-top wave pools. There are even plenty of activities for toddlers and younger kids, from a Frozen-themed splash pad at Blizzard Beach to a sand castle-themed one (featuring several mini slides and a water canon-topped mini tugboat) at Typhoon Lagoon. original photo: candace davison If you're staying a few days at a Disney Resort, it's worth shelling out roughly $22 for a refillable mug, which can be used at any soda fountain or Coca-Cola Freestyle station at the resorts and water parks. (They're not just good for sodas, or the Freestyle machines' sparkling waters, teas, juices and lemonades; you can also use 'em for unlimited coffee and hot chocolate refills.) Considering most drinks will set you back about $4 a pop, it can add up fast. The mugs are sold at most quick-service shops and food courts, and in some resort gift shops. While the mugs can't be used for free refills within Disney's theme parks, such as EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, I like to fill them up and bring them with me that morning, then use them to fill with the parks' courtesy water later in the day. The pool at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort (original photo: candace davison) Before booking anything, it's worth scrolling to see what promotions are running. Right now, Florida residents can save up to 30 percent on select Disney resorts, Disney+ subscribers can get rooms as low as $99 a night (plus taxes) and anyone planning a stay of five nights or more can save up to 30 percent a night this summer. original photo: candace davison Parking at one of the theme parks will set you back $30 a day—or up to $55 for preferred. However, if you stay at a Disney resort, standard parking is included, and if you don't want to deal with driving, resort guests have access to shuttle buses that will take you to the theme parks, other resorts and Disney's downtown shopping and restaurant mecca, Disney Springs. I used the buses daily during my last visit, and they were very reliable and easy to navigate, with buses showing up about every 20 minutes. (The one caveat I'd note is that you must fold up your stroller to get on and off, making transit a bit challenging if you're traveling solo with a rambunctious toddler.) Better yet, select resorts are connected to Disney's Skyliner service, free, fully enclosed gondolas that give you a sweeping view of the area and can take you to Disney's Riviera, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach and Art of Animation Resorts, as well as Disney's Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. The lines were almost non-existent, and at EPCOT, for example, you're dropped off at a back entrance that allows you to practically walk right into the park, breezing through security with hardly a line. (Seriously, there were two families in front of us when I was there in early May.) Lastly, if you're headed to the water parks, it's worth noting that parking there is free. With that kind of savings, it's easy to justify dropping $17 for a sand pail sundae to split with the fam, no? original photo: candace davison If my years of dragging my family through theme parks has taught me anything, it's that you need a rest day—both for everyone's sanity and for your wallet. But that doesn't mean you need to sit inside and stare at the walls. Most resorts offer free movies under the stars each night, and you could always call ahead to find out what will be showing—and decide whether it's worth taking a shuttle to another resort to catch their feature of the night. They also offer a surprising range of group fitness classes—the Contemporary hosts pickleball lessons on Wednesday mornings, for example—on top of having a range of pools to splash around in, and courts with complimentary paddle and ball rentals for tennis players, pickleballers and the like. Select resorts offer treats like roasting gourmet s'mores over a fire pit (with cinnamon-y Mickey-shaped cookies that put standard graham crackers to shame, I might add). You can find a full listing of resorts offering that perk here. And, as if that weren't enough, you can schedule crafts and DIY projects for kids too, like mosaic making or tie-dying Mickey-themed T-shirts and pillowcases. Costs and timing can vary, so it's worth checking with the lobby and booking in advance, since they make for a fun (and memorable) souvenir. Tie-dye, for example, costs about $15 to $20, depending on the resort and the item you're dyeing—which still makes it a more affordable pick than a bubble wand ($25) or many other theme park buys. Mickey Mouse kicks off Hong Kong Disneyland Resort's 20th anniversary Since Hong Kong Disneyland Resort opened on September 12, 2005, guests have enjoyed the park's unique way of telling Disney stories. Now, the Disney park in Hong Kong, China, is set for a big year in 2025, and it all starts with the kickoff of its 20th anniversary celebrations on June 28. Highlights of the year-long celebration include new entertainment and the largest parade in the park's history. Michael Moriarty, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, said in a press release, 'We're thrilled to kick off The Most Magical Party of All on June 28. Our incredible cast members are putting their all into getting everything ready for the year-long party. More Yuen/NurPhoto via Getty Images) Over the past few years, the park has undergone plenty of expansions and refurbishments, but one moment that has set up Hong Kong Disneyland Resort for its next chapter is its new castle. For the park's 15th anniversary, Sleeping Beauty Castle got a major upgrade, becoming the Castle of Magical Dreams, which is inspired by 13 Disney princess stories. The Castle of Magical Dreams marked the first time any Disney castle has been transformed from representing one princess to highlighting multiple. In fiscal year 2024, the resort welcomed a historic 7.7 million guests to the park, increasing park attendance by 21% over the previous year. That led to a cumulative attendance of over 106 million people since the park opened in 2005. 2024 also led to a historic level of net profit, HK$838 million (about $108 million in US dollars), which represents a 54% increase year-over-year. This high profit was partly due to the opening of the park's Frozen-themed area, World of Frozen, in November 2023. A new nighttime spectacular will debut at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort as part of the resort's 20th ... More anniversary. As the 20th anniversary looms near, the Castle of Magical Dreams is set to be the backdrop for much of the entertainment during the celebration. 'Guests will embark on a day-to-night magical party that builds excitement as the day unfolds,' shared Paul Rivet, executive Director of Entertainment at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, in a press release. 'Our 20th anniversary celebration also showcases how Disney entertainment has evolved to new heights. Get ready for three unmissable entertainment experiences, from our brand-new anniversary-only castle stage show, largest-ever parade to the grandest nighttime spectacular in [Hong Kong Disneyland Resort's] The biggest entertainment offering during the 20th anniversary is going to be the new 'Friendtastic! Parade.' This all-new parade is the largest in park history, at around 30 minutes with 11 floats themed to Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios films like Zootopia, Big Hero 6, Up, and Toy Story. The parade will also feature over 100 performers, including more than 30 Disney characters like Mickey and Friends, Duffy and Friends, and Disney Princesses. Throughout the day, Hong Kong Disneyland Park visitors can see the anniversary-exclusive show, 'Disney Friends Live: Party at the Castle!' The 15-minute show will feature pop music, dancing, interactive moments with characters, giant balloons and more. At night, guests can catch 'Momentous: Party in the Night Sky!' The nearly 30-minute nighttime spectacular takes place from the Castle of Magical Dreams all the way down Main Street, U.S.A. The show will feature eight highly technical elements, including large-scale 3D projection mapping, drones and water projections. Duffy and Friends-themed afternoon tea sets will be available during Hong Kong Disneyland's 20th ... More anniversary. No Disney party is complete without themed food and drink. At Hong Kong Disneyland Resort's 20th anniversary, the park will debut more than 80 new food and beverage items, including a Duffy and Friends-themed afternoon tea and themed family feasts with flatbreads and drinks. The kickoff of the anniversary will also bring six new anniversary-specific merchandise collections to the park. These exclusive initial collections will feature more than 300 new items. Both of these are easy ways for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort to make more money in a market that keeps growing. In fiscal 24, per capita guest spending grew by 28% over the previous year. With these new offerings, guest spending should continue to increase. With everything coming to the 20th anniversary celebration, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort's momentum is strong going into the next 20 years of storytelling.

Walt Disney Parks just made a really exciting change
Longtime Disney (DIS) theme park fans have had to deal with many changes over the years to the Happiest Place on Earth. Ongoing price hikes on everything from theme park entry to food and drink have left a lot of customers unhappy, with many saying that Disney is taking advantage of their long-standing loyalty. A decade ago, a ticket to the park was $105, while today, it's $109 (which doesn't seem like much at a glance, but after you book a hotel and a flight, things do add up). Don't miss the move: SIGN UP for TheStreet's FREE Daily newsletter The displeasure grew so loud on social media that Disney CEO Bob Iger even addressed it during the company's shareholder meeting on March 21. "We're constantly considering and developing and implementing new ways to make the experiences that we offer both more enjoyable, but of equal importance more accessible," said Iger. "We provide several options for families looking to spend less, including our lowest price ticket to Disneyland, which we've kept at the same level since before the COVID pandemic. And two years ago, when I returned, we tripled the number of days that low-price ticket was available." While Disney is clearly standing its ground on the changes, it's obviously hoping for some form of damage control from customers concerned about rising costs - and one of its latest moves may be one small way of doing has two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, to serve customers who are looking to swim and splash in the warmer months. However, both parks underwent changes in 2019 and 2020, putting them out of commission. Then, the pandemic dealt another blow, keeping them closed even longer. Even after the company recovered, both water parks were never open at the same time, a problem that many fans raised concerns about on social media. But now, both water parks will be open at the same time, according to a new announcement from Disney. On May 1, Typhoon Lagoon will be first to reopen its doors. But on May 21, Blizzard Beach will also reopen, giving guests access to a wide variety of fun options to explore. Related: Can Disney Climb Higher on Theme Parks, Consumer Products? Those who haven't been to Blizzard Beach or haven't been since pre-pandemic can also look forward to another treat: a Frozen-themed makeover of the previous Tike's Peak children's area. This includes Anna and Elsa's igloo fortress, snow chutes, wading pools, and more - enough to delight any child or adult who adores Frozen. The reopening also coincides with Blizzard Beach's 30th anniversary, so expect to see some fun extras when you visit, such as Mickey and Minnie in winter-themed outfits, a DJ pumping out fun tunes on the deck at the Polar Pub, snowman bowling, and more. All guests that stay at Disney resorts get free access to the water parks on their check-in day, which Disney started offering in 2024. This also marks the first time that all six of Disney's parks will be open simultaneously since before the pandemic.
