Mexican national sent back to L.A. to face murder charge in 2013 road-rage slaying
A Mexican National who was on the run for more than a decade is back in Los Angeles to face murder charges in connection with a 2013 slaying in the Arleta neighborhood, the FBI announced Tuesday. Luis Alberto Gutierrez Tejeda, 33, was arrested last year in Guadalajara, Mexico, and was awaiting formal extradition to the United States until arriving in Los Angeles on Friday, a news release from the FBI stated. Tejeda, a San Fernando Valley gang member known as 'Green Eyes' whose last known U.S. address was in Sylmar, was wanted for allegedly shooting a man to death during a July 2013 road rage incident. Originally identified only as Luis Alberto Gutierrez during the initial investigation, Tejada had worked at a North Hollywood business and began 'acting aloof' and changing his appearance in the days after the shooting, his employer told police at the time. Investigators said he then abandoned his job and had been 'on the run ever since.' The FBI's Fugitive Task Force was asked to assist in locating and apprehending Tejada once it was known he had fled the U.S. After more than ten years on the run, Tejada was taken into custody by Mexican authorities in October 2024. In May, the Fugitive Task Force was notified that Gutierrez Tejada would be turned over to American authorities on May 30. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Memphis Murder Map 2025 FBI Director Kash Patel addressed the rate on Fox News this weekend, saying the FBI is sending a task force to the city. 'I didn't know this until my confirmation process, but Memphis, Tennessee, is the homicide capital of America per capita – didn't know that, we have a problem there,' Patel said. 'We're now addressing it. We're rolling out one of our task forces to Tennessee.' Full Statement from Mayor Paul Young: MPD has always collaborated with federal agencies on addressing violent crime, and we're encouraged by any effort that brings more resources to Memphis. We look forward to learning more from our federal law enforcement partners. Locally, we're already seeing results. Through our recent Fugitive Task Force and other strategic operations, we've taken fugitives off the streets and disrupted gang activity across the city. With stronger collaboration and steady local leadership, we'll keep pushing forward to make every Memphis neighborhood safer. Senator Brent Taylor responded to Patel's claims on social media and said that he's happy to see Patel and the FBI take Memphis' crime surge seriously. 'With unwavering resolve, I'm fighting to #MakeMemphisMatter, showcasing our city's potential to my Senate colleagues,' said Taylor. 'With the Trump Administration's support, we're poised to tackle crime head-on, proving Memphis is a vibrant community worthy of investment and a brighter future.' This comes nearly a month after Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis called youth gun violence a catastrophic situation. At the time, the police department had responded to 28 homicides in 25 days. 'Last week, I had a meeting with the governor's office and talking about some initiatives that I think will help add ranks to the Memphis Police Department, and also in terms of perhaps a Crown consultant for, the state of Tennessee that would, make recommendations back to the state about what policies, laws that need to be changed and make those recommendations to us,' stated Taylor. Sen. Taylor said it's possible the FBI will reopen a field office in Memphis that moved to Nashville last year. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Police are investigating the homicides of two Israeli men found dead in their San Fernando Valley homes on Saturday in what appears to be unrelated incidents that left two businessmen dead, including the brother of an Israeli officers were called to a home on the 22200 block of De La Osa Street in Woodland Hills just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 where they discovered the body of 47-year-old Alexander Modebadze, who had been brutally beaten and suffered severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The LAPD, with agents from the FBI's Fugitive Task Force, soon tracked three men down in connection with the vicious attack: Paata Kochyashvili, 38; Zaza Otarashvili, 46, and Besiki Khutsishvili, 52. A motive was not immediately available, according to the LAPD, who did announce that the men held him captive, assaulted him, and stole property from his home. Later that day, at 2:30 p.m., police were called to an apartment on the 12600 block of Riverside Drive in Valley Village, to conduct a welfare check after relatives were unable to reach the resident. Upon arrival, they found the body of businessman Meni Hidhra, the brother of Nitzan Prison Warden Moshe Hidhra in Israel, according to the Jewish Journal. While the cases do not seem to be related at this time, the Jewish community is on edge. "It's terrifying. These do seem like targeted attacks," said Jennifer Feldman, 28, of Valley Village. "Two men with ties to Israel killed on the same day feels frightening to say the least." Last week the Anti-Defamation League released a report showing a staggering uptick in antisemitic crimes in 2024.
