Jeddah unveils 29 real estate projects across industrial, residential, retail sectors
RIYADH: Jeddah Municipality has announced 29 new investment opportunities across more than 1.4 million sq. meters, targeting sectors such as commercial, industrial, residential, and recreation. Jeddah's investment package includes 13 commercial opportunities featuring developing and operating retail shops and commercial complexes across various districts. The initiatives include the development of an integrated container city spanning 846,684 sq. meters and a second container park at 429,223 sq. meters. This latest undertaking also follows a similar wave of investment opportunities recently launched in Riyadh, underscoring a nationwide push to diversify Saudi Arabia's economy and enhance urban livability. Jeddah's additional projects feature a 145,472-sq.-meter barley milling and packaging facility, eight worker residential compounds, and eight public parks equipped with kindergartens and retail outlets. A food truck zone under the municipal incubator program in South Obhur has also been introduced. In the education sector, a health college project has been announced. The strategically distributed initiatives aim to meet neighborhood needs while ensuring synergy between activities. The municipality has invited investors to submit proposals through the Furas Saudi investment portal. It noted that the bid submissions will be accepted from May 1 until July 8, as per the scheduled timeline. The Furas portal streamlines investor access, reflecting a unified approach to municipal investments. This undertaking underscores Jeddah's commitment to economic growth and urban development in alignment with national objectives. Riyadh's 2025 investment portfolio — spanning commercial, industrial, and leisure projects — mirrors the Kingdom's strategic focus on private-sector-driven development under Vision 2030. In March, the Riyadh Municipality unveiled 20 new investment prospects across 175,000 sq. meters, including mixed-use spaces, retail hubs, and industrial zones, with contracts ranging from five to 25 years. Key districts like Jarir, Al-Rawdah, and Al-Qadisiyah are prioritized to ensure balanced growth. Complementing these efforts, the city has expanded its green infrastructure, adding 87 parks since 2022 to reach over 745,000 sq. meters of green space — transforming them into multifunctional community venues. These parallel initiatives highlight Saudi cities' commitment to sustainable urbanization, economic diversification, and elevated quality of life, cementing the Kingdom's position as a regional leader in transformative urban development.

Riyadh municipality unveils new investment opportunities across key sectors
JEDDAH: Riyadh has unveiled new investment opportunities for 2025, covering commercial, residential, retail, industrial, and leisure projects to boost the city's economy and development. The Riyadh municipality introduced 20 new investment prospects, covering more than 175,000 sq. meters across over 20 sites. These include mixed-use developments, existing retail spaces, mobile sports clubs, and areas allocated for concrete and construction material factories — along with a cafe and ATM setup. Investors can access the projects through the Furas online platform, designed as the municipality's primary hub for real estate and municipal investment opportunities, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to accelerate private sector participation in urban development, aligning with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. 'This step comes as an extension of the Riyadh municipality's strategy to enhance the role of the private sector in urban development, by enabling it to participate effectively in developing facilities and services, and achieving integration between government and investment efforts to meet the needs of society,' the SPA report stated. 'It also contributes to raising the quality of urban life and achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030,' it added. Contracts for the investment sites range from five to 25 years, covering multiple districts across Riyadh. Key locations include Jarir, Al-Deerah, and Al-Rawdah, alongside Al-Basateen, Al-Qadisiyah, and Al-Jazirah. Additional areas feature Al-Hamra, Al-Morouj, and Al-Yamamah, as well as Eastern Suwaidi, Al-Masha'il, Al-Manakh, Badr, and Taybah. Investors are invited to review competition requirements and the application process via a dedicated link, with the envelope opening set for May 2025. In a parallel push to enhance the capital's livability, 87 new parks were inaugurated over the last three years — raising the city's total to over 700, up from 615. The parks cover more than 745,000 sq. meters, featuring nearly 25,000 shrubs and 7,000 trees planted across different districts to ensure equitable access to green spaces. The parks now serve as dynamic community hubs, hosting cultural, social, entertainment, and sporting activities. The move underscores Riyadh Municipality's commitment to improving quality of life, fostering social cohesion, and advancing Vision 2030's urban sustainability goals. With these investments and infrastructure developments, Riyadh is positioning itself as a leading model for vibrant, sustainable urban growth in the region.

Labour Ministry: Employers Specify Jobseeker Qualifications
The Labour Ministry has confirmed that its hiring system allows jobseekers to specify their sub-specialisations alongside their main qualifications, allowing employers to request both when posting vacancies. In a written response to Parliament, the ministry stated that most administrative roles are open to applicants from a range of academic backgrounds and that work history is also considered. The ministry explained that its online recruitment system enables employers to specify sub- specialisations, so jobseekers can apply accordingly. 'Employers are not restricted from requesting specific sub-specialisations,' it said. 'For many roles, particularly in administrative fields, candidates from various disciplines are eligible. However, regulated professions such as healthcare, law, engineering, and teaching must meet licensing requirements.' While experience is not mandatory for most vacancies, the ministry noted that employers can review a candidate's work history through Social Insurance Organisation records and uploaded CVs. It added that the system is regularly updated to include new degrees and specialisations, so employers can request them in job postings. The ministry outlined its efforts to train and prepare Bahrainis for job market demands. Several programmes, in partnership with Tamkeen, aim to equip jobseekers with practical skills and experience. A Bahrain Polytechnic retraining programme is helping 3,000 university graduates transition into high-demand fields. The on-the-job training programme (Furas) provides a monthly stipend of BD200 to unemployed graduates undertaking workplace training, while non-graduates receive BD150. The Dhamaan programme places jobseekers in private-sector roles, guaranteeing employment after training. The Tamheed initiative helps applicants retrain for fields with available jobs. Apprenticeship schemes also exist, with the government covering half of trainees' wages forup to three years. Also read: BD322m Housing Push To Deliver 4,321 Homes By 2028
