Ontario Provincial Police say a driver is facing several charges after an officer's automatic licence plate reader (ALPR) noticed an issue with a van on Highway 417.
The ALPR flagged the vehicle's licence plate as 'missing,' OPP said on social media. The driver was pulled over and police said the investigation revealed the driver only had a G1 licence that was also suspended. Police also said the vehicle was not insured.
Drivers with G1 licences are not permitted to drive on 400-series highways.
'The driver faces a total of eight charges, including two counts of driving under suspension, operating a vehicle without insurance, use plates not authorized for the vehicle, and G1 licence violations,' the OPP said.
The vehicle was also impounded for seven days.
