IIT Gandhinagar has rolled out a new e-Masters in Data Science for Decision Making (DSDM), aimed at professionals looking to upgrade their skills in data science with a decision-making edge. The course is eligible for engineers and practitioners from diverse backgrounds, including engineering, science, business, or any other field. DSDM aims to offer a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to data science. The deadline to apply is June 20. The inaugural batch of the programme commenced in May 2024 and is now inviting applications for the second batch. A candidate who is a graduate with degrees in statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, technology, science, and economics and commerce is eligible to apply for the IIT Gandhi Nagar course. In these courses, the prospective student should score a minimum of 60 per cent or 6.0 CPI from 10. No GATE qualification is required to apply for the course. The application fee for the programme is Rs 1000, payable during submission. The total programme fee is Rs 9,60,000, broken down into a registration fee of Rs 1,50,000 (due within 2 weeks of selection) and a tuition fee of Rs 8,10,000 (payable in 6 instalments). IIT Madras launches courses in chemistry, EVs
IIT-M has launched undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the 2025–26 academic year, including a BS in chemistry and an MTech in electric vehicles , aimed at preparing students for industry and research leadership. Admissions to the new BS chemistry programme will be through the IISER aptitude test, while the MTech in electric vehicles will admit students via GATE. Two new BTech programmes computational engineering and mechanics (CEM) and instrumentation and biomedical engineering (iBME) have also been introduced under JEE. The institute has also operationalized two inclusive admission routes: sports excellence admission (SEA) and fine arts and culture excellence (FACE). Each BTech and BS programme will reserve two seats under these categories one gender-neutral and one for woman candidates. 'These new courses reflect both the aspirations of students and the evolving needs of industry and academia,' said Prof. Prathap Haridoss, dean (academic courses). All programmes include interdisciplinary learning, options for dual degrees, and industry-linked internships. The MTech focuses on hands-on learning for 2W, 3W, and commercial e-mobility, while iBME targets innovation in AI-driven healthcare.

Goa University begins PhD admission for 2024-25
Panaji: The Goa University has started the process of admissions to PhD programme seats for the academic year 2024-25 at the university schools and research centres affiliated to it. The university notification states that online applications will be received till June 3 and interviews with candidates will be held on June 11 and 12. Declaration of candidates is expected by June 17. The Goa University has announced hundreds of vacancies for PhD across general stream and professional streams. Seats are available at National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, National Institute of Oceanography, Goa College of Engineering, Goa College of Pharmacy and Goa College of Music, among others. Subjects for research include deep Sea and estuarine geochemical studies, disability and gender studies, biological oceanography, pharmaceutical sciences, law, Hindustani classical music, Marathi feminist literature, among other topics. 'Admission to the PhD programmes is open to candidates who qualify for the fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/ GATE/CEED and similar national level tests or any other test notified by the UGC from time to time, based on an interview. Candidates not falling under above, but have qualified NET/SET lectureship shall be eligible for admission to the PhD programme based on an interview. There shall be 70% weightage for the score at the NET/SET and 30% weightage for the interview,' the notification states. Candidates not falling under these categories but who have answered the entrance test conducted at the University and those qualifying this test will be eligible to attend the interview, the university has said. Students have to apply for the seats through the e-Samarth portal. Applicants are eligible to apply for a maximum of three programmes, the varsity stated. 'Every candidate shall have to reside within the territorial jurisdiction of Goa University during the first three years of the period of research leading to a PhD degree,' the university said.
