Department of Labor says Georgia added 6,900 jobs in March
Georgia's latest jobs report showed the rate held steady at 3.6% unemployment. According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the state added 6,900 jobs in March while the rate 'held steady.' 'Georgia's job market is full of opportunity, with nearly 5 million jobs and three openings for every Georgian,' Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes said in a statement. 'As labor commissioner, I'm committed to working alongside the governor, lawmakers, and job creators across the state to connect talent with opportunity and ensure Georgia remains the No. 1 state for business for years to come.' In addition to the 6,900 jobs added in March, GDOL said there had been 23,100 jobs added over the year. Industries with the most month-over-month job gains were health care and social assistance, information, administrative and support services, management of companies and enterprises and durable goods manufacturing. However, month-over-month, job numbers fell in transportation and warehousing, accommodation and food services, professional, scientific and technical services, finance and insurance and arts, entertainment and recreation. In March, GDOL said the overall labor force was down 6,619 and down 2,928 over the past 12 months. The number of people working was down 6,654 in March and down 14,039 for the year as well. The number of unemployed people in Georgia reached 11,111 over the year, according to GDOL, while unemployment claims were down 1,168 to reach 19,296 in March. Georgia unemployment rate remains unchanged for February
The Georgia Department of Labor said the state unemployment rate was still 3.6%, remaining unchanged from the rate in January. While GDOL had reported February's 3.6% unemployment rate in mid-March, the latest report shows that Georgia added more than 7,000 jobs last month. The state's unemployment rate was lower than the national rate of 4.1%. 'Georgia continues to drive business growth and opportunity, with 7,200 new jobs created in February alone,' said GDOL Interim Successor Louis DeBroux. 'At 3.6%, our unemployment rate remains below the national average—a reflection of Georgia's resilient workforce and the intentional, focused efforts by Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly, in partnership with the business community, to expand access to high-quality jobs.' In terms of where new jobs are opening, GDOL said the sectors with the most job gains over the month were healthcare and social assistance, administrative and support services, durable goods manufacturing, retail trade and private education. Over the past year, job gains were high in healthcare and social assistance, local government, federal government, finance and insurance and state government. Month-wise, jobs down hit transportation and warehousing, accommodation and food services and arts, entertainment and recreation in February. When it comes to what industries had job numbers down in the past year, the state said administrative and support services, accommodation and food services, durable goods manufacturing, retail trade and real estate, rental and leasing saw the most drops. Georgia unemployment rate 'holds' at 3.6%
The latest unemployment numbers from the Georgia Department of Labor are in and they're showing no real changes compared to December. The January unemployment rate in Georgia was 3.6%, the same as the month before and still just a hair lower than the national rate. GDOL officials said Georgia's rate of unemployment was four-tenths lower than the United States average. 'Georgia's economy is built for the future, but to maintain our competitive edge, we must remain committed to making Georgia the top choice for businesses and talent,' GDOL Interim Commissioner Louis DeBroux said in a statement. Georgia businesses in the manufacturing, state government and private education were among those with the biggest job gains, while transportation and warehousing and food services saw big decreases. Health care, social assistance, information and accommodation jobs also saw decreases in the past month, according to GDOL. 'Despite a decline in January's job numbers, our unemployment rate remains at 3.6%, four tenths below the national average. By continuing to invest in our people, expand opportunities, and drive innovation, we are ensuring Georgia remains the national leader in economic opportunity for all,' DeBroux added. Georgia Department of Labor: Augusta's job market rose in December
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Augusta had a recorded unemployment rate of 4.2 percent in December 2024. According to the department, Augusta ended December 2024 with 249,400 jobs, which reflected an increase of 1,100 over-the-month and 2,800 over-the-year. The area saw 254,942 employed residents for the month of December, up 1,029 over-the-month and up 1,796 compared to the same time a year ago. The labor force in Augusta decreased by 187 last month, totaling at 266,146. Statewide, unemployment claims declined across most of Georgia's regional commissions in December. 'With historic job growth nearing 5 million and unemployment rates outperforming the national average, Georgia is well on the way to making history,' aid GDOL Interim Successor Louis DeBroux.
