Central Railway celebrates international museum day at CSMT heritage museum

Mumbai: Central Railway (CR) on Sunday celebrated International Museum Day by honouring the heritage of Indian Railways at the Heritage Museum inside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) building, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to a senior CR official, this year's theme, 'The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities', emphasised the continued importance of museums in preserving history and empowering younger generations. CR marked the day by hosting engaging quizzes on its social media platforms to boost public participation. Winners will be given a complimentary guided tour of the CSMT Heritage Museum, which exhibits rare items such as scale models of the historic GIP1, the Vande Bharat Express, and the Shinkansen E5 Bullet Train, along with a 1:4 scale model of the Barsi Light Railway steam locomotive. Other displays include heritage lamps, station bells, medical tools, and Mangalore tiles from old stations, enhanced with QR codes for digital storytelling. .
