Kings make roster move involving two-way rookie Isaac Jones Sacramento Kings rookie Isaac Jones has been upgraded from a two-way contract to a standard NBA deal, the team announced. The news was first reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. Jones will reportedly sign a two-year contract with the Kings that will likely be non-guaranteed in the second year. He will now be eligible to play in the postseason on a standard contract for the Kings, who are ninth in the Western Conference (35-35). The undrafted forward from Washington State is averaging 3.7 points and 1.5 rebounds on 67.6% shooting from the field in 31 appearances with the Kings. He has scored in double figures three times, including 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal on March 10. Grizzlies' Yuki Kawamura shines, Armando Bacot wins championship in G League All-Star game
SAN FRANCISCO — Sunday's G League Up Next Game was heavily represented by the Memphis Grizzlies organization. Three Memphis Hustle players and one Grizzlies player participated in the four-team mini-tournament, and each player made a notable impact. Each of the three games played had representation from Memphis. In the end, Hustle center Armando Bacot was the winner. Bacot's Team Braxton squad took home the championship in Moscone Center on Sunday afternoon, winning the final game 30-26. Grizzlies point guard Yuki Kawamura played in the first game. His squad, Team Strictly, also featured Hustle forward, Maozinha Periera. The duo lost 35-34 against Team Swish Culture. The combination of Kawamura and Periera was seamless in the All-Star setting. Kawamura dazzled with flashy passes, including an underhand alley oop from halfcourt. Periera didn't start, but his team made a run when he entered the game. The high-flying Brazilian forward was on the receiving end of several passes from Kawamura, and he knocked down both of his 3-point attempts. Periera finished with a team-high 14 points and made all six of his shots. "I know when (Kawamura's) going to pass and when he's not going to pass," Periera said. "He knows when I'm jumping and when I'm not jumping. He knows whenever he passes, I'm going to be there, so it's cool having him on the same team as an All-Star. We wanted to win, but at the same time, it's just a show." Kawamura was the star of the show. Not just with his passing, but his fanfare as well. Several fans showed up in Kawamura Grizzlies or Hustle jerseys. After the games ended, Kawamura was surrounded by a herd of fans, signing as many autographs as he could before he eventually had to leave. Kawamura considers passing his job. He took one shot in the game and didn't score, but he added four rebounds and three assists. "It was so cool, and I'm enjoying it," Kawamura said. ". . . I just want to pass to my teammates and alley oops." Their performances went in different directions. Bacot knocked down a 3-pointer early and went to the bench. Steward checked into the game and provided Team EYL with a lift. Steward finished with five points and three rebounds, but it wasn't enough in the 36-32 loss. Bacot played four minutes in the second game and tallied a rebound in the 30-26 championship game. He finished with three points and three rebounds across the two games. "It was a ton of fun being here," Bacot said. "It's a different venue than what we've played in, but to be able to play in front of all these different fans at the All-Star event, it was a ton of fun." Memphis Hustle center Armando Bacot was on the winning squad (Team Braxton) in the G League Up Next Game. — Damichael Cole (@DamichaelC) February 16, 2025 Damichael Cole is the Memphis Grizzlies beat writer for The Commercial Appeal. The best dunk contest of the year is …by the Nebraska football team?
The dunk contest that most sports fans have been waiting for won't take place until Feb. 15 with the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest. But there's another annual dunk contest that shouldn't be slept on: the one put on by the Nebraska football team. This year, the Cornhuskers held their dunk contest at halftime of their showdown with No. 19 Illinois. And just like what often happens in the NBA's version, an unexpected star emerged: Last year's winner, Jeremiah Charles, put up a valiant fight to defend his crown with an impressive one-handed reverse. Despite his efforts, and the jams from Emmett Johnson, Connor Schutt, Quinn Clark and Dasan McCullough, it was quarterback-turned-tight end Heinrich Haarberg who came away as the champ. The junior wowed the crowd when he threw the ball off the backboard and slammed it home for the thunderous dunk. Dylan Raiola, the guy Haarberg used to back up, was also there, coming off a promising freshman season for the 7-6 Huskers. He rocked a special jersey, showing his support for Nebraska alum Keisei Tominaga, who was recently invited to participate in the G League Up Next Game during NBA All-Star Weekend. But Raiola (perhaps wisely, since he's the starting quarterback) remained a spectator to the festivities: The basketball game between the Cornbuskers and Illini had its share of dunks too, but Haarberg's is the one that fans will be talking about the most.
