Visakhapatnam: US Consul General in Hyderabad Jennifer Larson emphasised the importance of volunteerism to maintain the city clean and beautiful. She was speaking at a beach clean-up programme organised as part of the 'Community Day' observance by the American Corner at Andhra University at Rushikonda Beach on Saturday morning. The US Consul General participated in a beach clean-up activity, collected litter along with students and volunteers. She appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the volunteers, students, and local citizens, underlining the collaborative efforts that help yield positive results for environmental initiatives. Taking part in the cleanup drive, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor GP Rajasekhar noted that programmes like these contribute significantly to maintaining cleanliness at beaches. He praised the volunteers for their participation. Sharing his views, Registrar of Andhra University EN Dhanunjaya Rao called for making the beach plastic-free. He urged the implementation of special measures to reduce plastic usage and commended the volunteers for their efforts in maintaining the beach in an eco-friendly manner. Certificates of appreciation were presented to all the volunteers who took part in the Community Day initiative. Andhra University director of physical education N Vijay Mohan, NCC coordinator Prof NM Yugandhar, Public Diplomacy Officer Emilia Smith from the US Consulate General Hyderabad, American Spaces coordinator Melissa Nandula, and AU American Corner Coordinator Paul Douglas and others participated in the event.

Visakhapatnam: Andhra University has decided to introduce several structural changes aimed at strengthening academic and administrative efficiency. A new dean for faculty affairs has been appointed to address matters and issues related to teaching staff. Similarly, the university has created the dean of alumni relations post for the first time to foster strong connections between alumni and their alma mater. To enhance the university's reputation through academic initiatives and collaborations with industry and govt, a new position, namely dean of outreach, has been introduced. A professor-in-charge has been appointed to oversee courses such as NPTEL, SWAYAM, and MOOCs. Furthermore, a professor-in-charge for university branding and media affairs, along with the IQAC coordinator, will operate in alignment under the purview of the dean of outreach as part of a newly designed structure. A chief coordinator has been appointed for the spot valuation section to reinforce the integrity of the examination system. The roles of the director of admissions and the centre for distance and open learning have now been consolidated under a single new director, who has been entrusted with full responsibility for both domains. In prioritising student welfare, a new dean of student welfare has been appointed. Under this division, the NCC, NSS, and the department of arts have been integrated. A separate dean position has been established to coordinate infrastructure, planning, and management. This division will oversee essential services including civil, electrical, transport, and security operations, and will be responsible for infrastructure development. To further strengthen the research and development division, it has now been integrated under the purview of a dean. The projects and intellectual property rights (IPR) sections have also been brought under this domain, with an in-charge appointed to oversee their functioning. Vice-chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar said that these institutional changes have been introduced to enhance transparency, accountability, and the efficiency of services at Andhra University. "As part of this, there was a complete restructuring of deans and directors related to the administration. New positions have been created, including dean of faculty affairs, dean of outreach, dean of alumni relations, dean of infrastructure, planning and management, and chief coordinator of spot valuation. Furthermore, several measures are being taken to strengthen the examination evaluation system. It is important to connect the century-old university with its alumni, recognising and honouring their contributions. In this direction, several institutional reforms are being introduced in the university's administration," the V-C added.

Visakhapatnam: Andhra University released the results of AP-ICET entrance examination on Tuesday. As many as 95.86% of candidates qualified, which serves as the basis for admissions to MBA and MCA courses in state universities across Andhra Pradesh. AU vice-chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar and registrar Prof EN Dhanunjaya Rao announced that a total of 37,572 students applied for ICET, of which 34,131 appeared for the test. "Among them, 32,719 candidates qualified. In the male category, 15,863 appeared, and 15,176 qualified. In female category, 18,268 appeared, and 17,543 qualified. The overall pass percentage in ICET was 95.86%. Among those who appeared, 95.66% of males and 96.03% of females qualified, with girls outperforming boys," they said. Manoj Meka from Visakhapatnam clinched the top position, while D Sandeep Reddy from YSR Kadapa district attained second spot. S Krishna Sai from NTR district was third, V Sairam Satvik from Hyderabad was fourth, and R Madhurya from Guntur rounded off the top five positions. The minister participated in the 'Shining Stars' event on Tuesday, where 47 students who excelled in the Class X (SSC) exam from govt schools were honoured. Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test (AP ICET) 2025 for admission into MBA and MCA courses will be conducted on May 7, Wednesday, in two sessions, said AP ICET chairman and Andhra University vice chancellor, Prof GP Rajasekhar. Speaking to media along with registrar Prof EN Dhanamjayarao and ICET convenor Prof M Shashi, Prof Rajasekhar said that the exam will be held at 94 centers, including those in Hyderabad, in addition to Andhra Pradesh. "A total of 37,572 students have applied for the exam. The first session will be from 9 am to 11:30 am, and the second session will be from 2 pm to 4:30 pm," said the VC."Candidates appearing for the morning session will be allowed to enter the exam centres from 7:30 am onwards. Those appearing for the afternoon session will be allowed entry from 1 pm. As the exam is computer-based, candidates are required to bring their hall ticket and any original identification card. Blue or black ballpoint pens can be used at the exam centre, but no electronic devices will be allowed inside. Necessary security arrangements have been made at the exam centres," added Prof tickets have been made available on the website Students are advised to download their hall tickets and reach the exam centres on time. There will be no negative marking in the exam. Convenor Prof M. Shashi encouraged candidates to manage their time effectively to successfully complete the exam. The preliminary key will be released shortly after the exam, and the results will be declared on May 21.
