Situated on the northeast side of the heritage tank, the reconstruction will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh. The structure is a designated heritage site, and no injuries were reported in the collapse.
This retaining wall, which crashed, was attached to several unauthorised structures that were recently razed in a joint operation by the BMC and the GSB Temple Trust. In the aftermath of the incident, the civic body, state archaeological department, and members of the GSB Temple Trust conducted an urgent site visit to inspect the impact and determine the plausible factors that led to the crash.
Now, the BMC has floated a tender to appoint a contractor to reconstruct the retaining wall within a contract period of 25 days. In its terms, the civic body has stated that only contractors who are empanelled with the state archaeology department (directorate of archaeology and museum) or the heritage cell of BMC can apply for the work at the heritage precinct.
