Former YSU 7-footer commits to Power 5 program

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Former Youngstown State men's basketball center Gabe Dynes has committed to Southern California after entering the transfer portal in March. Dynes made the announcement on social media after it was confirmed by On3Sports. In 35 games (7 starts) for the Penguins, Dynes averaged 6.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. That number (3.1) ranked third in blocked shots in the entire country. The 7-foot-3-inch center maintained a 70% field goal percentage after averaging 5.5 points and 5 rebounds across 61 career games. Additionally, Dynes was twice named to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team while becoming the third Penguin in program history to reach 100 blocks in a single season. USC men's basketball finished 17-18 overall and 7-13 in Big Ten play during head coach Eric Mussleman's first season at the helm. Green Bay's Marcus Hall scored 16 points in the loss. The 'Guins are now one game behind in the Horizon League Conference standings at a record of (13-6). YSU is behind Robert Morris (14-5) and Cleveland State (13-4). YSU now has an overall record of 19-11 and is third in the conference.
