Winnipeg Jets forward Alex Iafallo signs 3-year contract extension
The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Alex Iafallo to a three-year contract extension, the NHL club announced Wednesday. The extension will kick in next season and carries an average annual value of US$3.67 million. The 31-year-old from Eden, N.Y., has 15 goals and 16 assists in 81 games for the Jets this season. He has played on the Jets' top line with Gabe Vilardi, who is recovering from an upper-body injury, and has two goals and three assists over his last six games. Vilardi, who hasn't played since March 23, resumed skating Tuesday and is considered day-to-day. The Jets (55-22-4), who last week wrapped up their first Presidents' Trophy as the team with the best regular-season record, end their campaign Wednesday night against visiting Anaheim. They'll face the St. Louis Blues in a first-round playoff series. Iafallo, an undrafted free agent signed by the Los Angeles Kings out of the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2017, has played 583 career games for Winnipeg and Los Angeles. He has recorded 262 points (111 goals, 151 assists) and 101 penalty minutes in the regular season and added 10 points (five goals, five assists) and 10 penalty minutes in 21 playoff games.

Line Combinations: Jets vs. Devils
The 49-19-4 Winnipeg Jets are set to host the 38-28-7 New Jersey Devils from snowy Manitoba on Friday night. Doused with 15 centimetres of snow over the past 24 hours, Winnipeg's Canada Life Centre will host the first game of the season that truly doesn't matter for the Jets' initial playoff chances. We say 'initial' because every game matter in terms of final standings, finishing placements and season series', but as of Winnipeg's 3-2 overtime victory on Tuesday, the Jets are in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Advertisement They enter the night one point behind Washington for first overall, while having played the same amount of games as the Capitals. But more concerning for the Jets are the red-hot Dallas Stars who sit just four points behind Winnipeg, as well as the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues, who have combined for a 27-3-3 record in their last 33 games played, combined. With injuries to Gabe Vilardi and Rasmus Kupari, Alex Iafallo has positioned himself on the top line, while David Gustafsson draws back into the fold on the fourth grouping. The second and third lines have see some adjustments as well. Logan Stanley continues to dress on the blueline over Haydn Fleury. Connor Hellebuyck will get the nod between the pipes as the Jets look to become the first team to hit 50 wins on the season.
