Celeb nutritionist shares 5 handy food rules to combat tummy trouble this Summer
Celeb nutritionist shares 5 handy food rules to combat tummy trouble this Summer Whether it's a city break, beach holiday, or staycation, there's one thing that can really ruin your trip away - and that's a dodgy tummy. But one expert may have the answer This summer, five key nutrition rules could help you avoid tummy troubles abroad (Image: Getty ) With June officially upon us and the summer holidays just weeks away, an increasing number of us are beginning to contemplate our holiday plans. Whether it's discovering the domestic wonders of the British Isles, enjoying a taste of European allure on a mini city-break, or jetting off for a longer stay on a sun-drenched beach - one thing is certain, you won't want a troublesome tummy ruining your plans. Digestive issues reportedly affect between 30% and 70% of holidaymakers each year, depending on which study you refer to. This suggests that while it may be embarrassing to be confined to the loo, suffering from cramps, or battling with nausea, you're certainly not alone if you've ever been struck down whilst trying to enjoy a holiday. So why do people fall ill and what can they do to prevent it? Travel itself is one of the main factors contributing to illness when going abroad, particularly when crossing multiple time zones. This can disrupt your body's natural circadian rhythm, affecting everything from sleep to digestion and even hormone production, reports the Express. Travelling across timezones can disrupt our circadian rhythm leading to sickness (Image: Getty ) This means you might struggle to fall asleep, wake up feeling fatigued, experience digestive problems, or suffer from mood swings - all things that can dampen the joy of a much-anticipated holiday. And it's not just major changes that can cause issues, but a combination of minor alterations that can wreak havoc on your health, according to Women's Health. Celebrity nutritionist and author Gabriela Peacock has shed light on the importance of maintaining a routine, stating: "Even just shifting your routine, such as eating at odd times, sleeping less, or sitting for long periods, can cause imbalances. I always tell my clients: your body thrives on rhythm. "So, while travel naturally brings some chaos, anchoring your day with simple routines, like waking and eating at consistent times, staying hydrated, and getting sunlight early in the day, can help reset your internal clock." So how can we tackle this issue? Gabriela suggests several key strategies to prevent an upset stomach while travelling, including walking after meals, drinking plenty of water, and incorporating fibre into your diet early in the day. She also advises drinking filtered water where possible and enhancing gut health with a probiotic. However, it's her five essential nutritional guidelines that truly make a difference and can bring joy back to any holidaymaker's face this summer season. Start with protein It only seems fitting to start Gabriela's recommendations with the most important meal of the day - and that's breakfast. She recommends starting off with a healthy dose of protein in the morning, such as eggs, avocado, or Greek yoghurt with berries. Stay hydrated Hydration also plays a key part in avoiding tummy trouble (Image: Getty ) In hot climates it may seem like a no-brainer, but closer to home we're often guilty of neglecting our water intake. Gabriela recommends staying hydrated, particularly during and after long flights, and even suggests boosting electrolytes with a pinch of Celtic sea salt or pre-packaged sachets to ensure your body is in tip-top shape for the day ahead. Don't skip meals When away from home there can sometimes be a tendency to skip meals while trying to cram everything into a day, but this a huge no-no, according to Gabriela as skipping meals often backfires later with sugar crashes or overeating. Instead, she recommends eating regular balanced meals to help keep blood sugar stable. Snacks are a godsend If you don't fancy tucking into a solid meal, snacks can be a good alternative option particularly if you pick healthy choices that pack a protein punch. ' I always travel with some nuts, a protein bar, or sachets of protein powder so I'm never caught off guard,' explained Peacock. ' You can get great cured meats in Europe too – which act as a great high-protein snack!' Don't be afraid to try local food When travelling, don't be afraid to indulge in local cuisine while you're experiencing a new place. Whether that's a delicious Akee and Saltfish in Jamaica, a dreamy Linguine in Italy, or a Sukiyaki hotpot in Japan, experiencing the different flavours and delicacies while abroad can add a huge new sensory element to your getaway. Article continues below However, while Gabriela highly encourages tucking in, she does add that you should monitor your own body, and try not to eat too heavily for several days in a row to avoid any unfortunate mishaps.

EXCLUSIVE Man United complete £62.5m signing of Matheus Cunha with Brazilian star becoming Ruben Amorim's first summer arrival after horror season
Manchester United have completed the signing of Matheus Cunha. The Brazil forward has now finalised his £62.5m move from Wolves with a statement due imminently, Mail Sport understands. Cunha, 28, passed his medical last week and will be United's first statement of intent in a big summer as they seek to rebuild under Ruben Amorim. Cunha netted 33 times in 92 appearances for Wolves after initially joining from Atletico Madrid on loan in January 2023. He penned a deal permanently at the end of that season for up to 40m euros (£35m). United will pay Wolves in three instalments of £20.85m over two years after the Molineux club rejected an offer to stagger the payment over five years. The Red Devils had already agreed personal terms with the Brazilian international earlier this week and he is now expected to receive Marcus Rashford's No 10 shirt. He was spotted at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester just hours before his signing was officially announced and was accompanied by his pregnant wife, Gabriela. Cunha enjoyed an impressive individual campaign in the Midlands, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists in 33 Premier League appearances. His total was significantly higher than any United player managed in the league, with Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo ending as joint top scorers with eight each. The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the season despite signing a new four-year deal with Wolves in February. 'I've made it clear that I need to take the next step,' Cunha said in March. 'I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.' Mail Sport revealed last month that United were close to an agreement, while Cunha and Amorim were seen in conversation in April following Wolves' win at Old Trafford. Amorim is desperate to bolster United's attack with Rasmus Hojlund misfiring, while Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho look set to depart. United only scored 44 league goals, their lowest ever tally in the Premier League era. But the Portuguese boss won't have a large transfer fund and will offload players to free up cash, with the majority of his squad available for the right price. Their budget is understood to be around £125m plus whatever money the club can raise through player sales. They want another striker, midfielder and No 10, with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and Ipswich's Liam Delap touted for a move. Delap, though, looks bound for Chelsea. Bees boss Thomas Frank admitted at the weekend that Brentford will listen to offers for Mbuemo, 25, who would cost around £50m plus add-ons. Tyrell Malacia is also expected to be sold this summer, while Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans will be leaving as free agents at the end of June. United finished one place ahead of Wolves after beating Aston Villa 2-0 on the final day. But their 15th place finish marks their lowest since they were relegated in 1974. Meanwhile, Wolves drew 1-1 to Brentford, with Cunha completing a full 90 minutes in his last game for the club. Joao Gomes revealed that he and Andre had been gifted watches by the outgoing Wolves star Following the draw, he wrote: 'Wolves, what can I say to you? 'What an incredible season. We didn't get to where you deserve to be, but we did everything we could to make you proud. I love these guys. 'Individually, it was the best season of my life. All of this was only possible because of all the dedication and love I have for this club. 'I became the Brazilian with the most goals in a Premier League season, along with @roberto_firmino and @ 'I made mistakes and got things right, but always because I lived this club so much. All I ever wanted was to do the impossible for Wolves. Another one is over. 'And thank you all for all the affection.' Cunha's Brazilian team-mates Joao Gomes and Andre revealed on social media that they had been gifted Rolex watches by the outgoing attacker. Cunha joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 and scored an impressive 33 goals in 92 appearances for the club.

'The most awkward moment whenever we come to a new place in India,' she wrote in the caption. 'We wouldn't talk about it but sadly it is NOT a rare occurrence anymore. Basically every second shopkeeper or taxi/auto driver assumes that Hardik is my tour guide and in some circumstances my driver… Why?? Gabriela added. Expressing her disbelief and irritation, she further wrote, 'Which girl walks around keeping hands and taking 1000s pictures with her tour guide??' 'I understand that also it's nothing wrong to be called guide. It is how we take. I had same issues not exactly yours. But we laughed on it .. played along,' a user wrote. 'Same thing happened to me when I visited My home town with my wife and family. Some Locals thought i was their tourguide,' another user commented. 'Stereotypes are strong in our minds unfortunately and I'm guessing people look at him and see a normal, middle class guy. Not flashy or modern. They assume he won't be 'good enough',' a third user reacted.

Polish Woman Calls Out Stereotypes In India: "He's My Husband, Not My Tour Guide"
A Polish content creator married to an Indian man has sparked discussion online after highlighting a stereotype she says she repeatedly encounters while travelling across India. In a viral post on Instagram, Gabriela, who often shares glimpses of her life with husband Hardik Varma, expressed frustration over how people frequently mistake her husband for her tour guide or driver. "The most awkward moment whenever we come to a new place in India. Sadly, it's NOT a rare occurrence anymore. Almost every second shopkeeper or auto/taxi driver assumes Hardik is my tour guide - and sometimes even my driver. Why?" she wrote. Questioning the assumption, she added, "Which girl walks around holding hands and taking thousands of pictures with her tour guide?" Gabriela also shared a lip-sync video with her husband, calling out such behaviour as "rude", and urged people to move past outdated assumptions about interracial or intercultural couples. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gabriela & Hardik Varma | Travel & Indian Culture (@hardikandgabi) The post quickly went viral, with social media users both supporting her message and sharing similar experiences. Others acknowledged the deep-rooted biases that still exist when it comes to cross-cultural relationships in India. A user commented, "Maybe you should marry again in India with a big announcement like your motortour." Another user wrote, "You both look good i dont understand why ppl are suggesting barber & gym for why ppl find it difficult to accept the truth that human beings come in diff shades, shapes & sizes! If everyone has to be similar, then no one will be unique! Lets live without judgements!"
