Fundraisers set up for Enterprise State player injured in two-vehicle crash ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — Following a deadly two-vehicle crash in Enterprise on Thursday night that critically injured an Enterprise State baseball player, community members are coming together to try and help. Advertisement So far, two separate fundraisers have been set up for Enterprise State outfielder/third basemen Gaines Harrell. Harrell was involved in a two-vehicle crash in the 1800 block of Boll Weevil Circle at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Harrell, a Blakely, Georgia native, was critically injured in the crash and was transported to the HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital via life flight, where he was diagnosed with two broken femurs, two shattered ankles, and a broken knee. The driver of the other vehicle, Rey Maldonado, died at the scene. Enterprise State Coach Bubba Frichter says Harrell was put into a medically induced coma and had extensive surgeries on both of his legs Friday afternoon. According to a GoFundMe post on Harrell, he may need to spend up to 12 weeks in a rehab facility post-discharge. The GoFundMe page can be found here. As of Sunday afternoon, over 70 people have donated to help Harrell. Someone at Enterprise State is also selling bracelets for $5 each, with all proceeds going directly to Harrell's family. Information on how to purchase a bracelet can be found on the Enterprise State Community College – Baseball Facebook page. According to Enterprise Police, a Ford Expedition, driven by Maldonado, crossed the lines on Boll Weevil Circle and hit Harrell's truck head-on. His production has helped lead Enterprise State to a 24-8 overall record and a 17-5 mark in conference play, putting the Boll Weevils at the top of the ACCC Division II standings.
