Samsung Galaxy users report battery drain issues after One UI 7 update
Samsung Galaxy users are experiencing faster battery drain after installing the latest One UI 7 update. Devices like the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23 series, and Galaxy Z Fold 6 seem to be particularly affected, with many users reporting a significant drop in battery performance. According to a report by Android Police, a growing number of complaints have surfaced on Samsung's support forums and platforms like Reddit, where users share concerns about the rapid battery draining following the Android 15-based update. For example, one Galaxy Z Fold 6 user mentioned that their device now only retains 20 to 25 percent battery by the end of the day, a sharp decline from the 45 to 50 percent remaining prior to the update. Other users of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S23 models are experiencing similar issues. A few Galaxy S23 users, for instance, report that their battery life has either improved or remained unaffected after the update. This divergence in user experience raises questions about the causes behind the issue. Battery drain problems and overheating after software updates are common in Android devices, including high-end models. These issues are often attributed to major updates resetting a phone's battery optimisation settings, which track user habits such as app usage and screen time. After an update, the device may work harder to readjust to these patterns, resulting in higher power consumption. Despite extensive testing before its release, some bugs may have slipped through the cracks, which are possibly contributing to the increased battery drain. There is hope that the problem may improve over time. It is typical for Android devices to consume more battery immediately after a major update due to the background optimisation of apps and settings. This process can take a few days to complete, which is why it is recommended that users wait at least a week to see if battery life improves. Samsung One UI 7 For Galaxy S23: Surprise Early Update For Millions Of Users
The software for Samsung's Galaxy smartphones is being updated to One UI 7, which includes Android 15. For users in the U.S., this has now reached Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Tab S10 devices — sooner than was expected. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is now receiving the One UI 7 update. The rollout has taken a long time, and it's been staggered across different models. The latest flagship, the Galaxy S25 series, has had the software since release in January, with last year's Galaxy S24 phones next. The Galaxy S23 release was expected to come in May for all users apart from those in Korea, but here it is, having landed for U.S. users in the last few hours, as reported by SamMobile. Now, it's the turn of the S23 and a tablet, the Galaxy Tab S10. Different countries are seeing the deployment at different times, with the U.S. a few days later than Korea, for instance. For the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra, smartphones in Samsung's home country of South Korea started receiving the update on April 24, and U.S. users saw it arrive just a day later, Friday, April 25. According to 9to5Google, initially this was restricted to phones sold through carriers such as US Cellular and Xfinity Mobile, with unlocked phones having to wait longer. There's one S23 model which isn't getting the update yet, and that's the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, which is still expected to see it in May. For tablets, the Galaxy Tab S10 update was released in South Korea first, and is now available in Europe and the U.S. The same now applies to Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra users in the U.S. Here's how to get the update if you haven't seen a notification appear on your home screen: open the Settings app on the phone or tablet, choose Software Update and then Download and Install on your device.
